WELCOME PARENTS! Geometry

Welcome to Mrs. Dettlinger's Geometry course! This course focuses on the basics of geometry, reasoning and proofs, transformations, congruent triangles, quadrilaterals, similarity, circles, and more. Tests and quizzes account for 90% of the grade, with homework making up the remaining 10%. Stay involved in your child's learning by reviewing important concepts and formulas and communicating with the teacher.

Geometry Overview - Big Ideas • Basics of Geometry • Reasoning and Proofs • Parallel and Perpendicular lines • Transformations • Congruent Triangles • Relationships with Triangles • Quadrilaterals and other polygons • Similarity • Right triangles and trigonometry • Circles • Circumference, area and volume

Grading Policy Tests • Given at the end of a Unit • Study guides will be given • Will be cumulative • Accounts for 60% of the grade • 3 or more per trimester Quizzes • 1 -2 per unit • Redo for performance below a 75 • Accounts for 30% of the grade • 5 or more per trimester Test/ Quiz Folder Kept in the back of the room Students may sign out at any time

HOMEWORK • Assigned almost everyday • MUST be completed in pencil • Will be posted on google classroom • Complete on separate sheet of paper (in pencil) • Will be grade by student on class with correcting pen • 50% accuracy - 50% ontime completion • Correction must be completed on a separate sheet of paper with ORIGINAL assignment attached and is due before the unit test • 10 % of MP grade

Tips for Studying Mathematics • When you are absent, make up work immediately. • Ask questions and listen when others as questions. • REVIEW regularly. 10 minutes a day beats 3 hours of cramming. Trust me! • Review your notes before beginning your homework. (bring math notebook home to help complete homework) • Show all of your work and check your work. Develop good habits during practice will help during tests and quizzes. • Make a list of important concepts and formulas. Make sure you can explain concept in your own words.
