Background Info. • Born 1893-1942; New York • Most popular short story writer of his time • First published as “The Hounds of Zaroff” • Double meaning of title • “Most Dangerous Game”- widely read; published in a magazine in 1924; story won the O. Henry Memorial Prize in 1924 • Journalist at 10yrs. old covering baseball games for his father’s newspaper company • Age 16, a newspaper city editor • Graduated from Harvard; served in WWI • Has written more than 300 stories, novels, screenplays • Hunting for big game was a popular sport in 20th century- that is why Connell wrote about it
