  4. Get Organised • Which picture is ‘organised’? No – on a cluttered desk it is not easy to find anything. Yes – everything has a place and is easy to find. No – on a messy desk like this it is not easy to find anything.

  5. Maths English Science Social Studies What does it mean ‘To be Organised’? • Everything has a place, like a folder or a file. • Everything is easy to find. • You know exactly where to look to find things.

  6. Is your Mind Organised or Disorganised? A messy desk shows a messy mind. An organised desk shows an organised mind.

  7. How to be Organised • Put everything where it should be. • Do it straight away – don’t wait until later or tomorrow. • If you wait you waste a lot of time later, because later you will not know where it is. • DO THINGS NOW!DON’T WAIT

  8. Study Guide Before a Test, get a Study Guide • A week or more before the exams, get a study guide. • A study guide tells you what to learn. Your teacher will give you a list. Shapes Fractions Equations Story sums You will be able to tick things off when you have done them. Ask you teacher what you must learn. The list your teacher gives you is your study guide.

  9. How must you Learn? • This is where it pays to be organised. • Get the work you have done during the term – homework, tests, class work. • Do some of the questions again without looking at the answers. Work with friends. Work on your own.

  10. How must you Learn? • When you have done some questions then look at the answers. • The questions you got wrong – those are the sections of work you must revise and learn. I only need to learn what I don’t know. I can mark what I know and what I don’t know.

  11. How must you Learn? • Many text books have questions at the end of each chapter. • Do some of these questions. • The more questions you practise the better you get. Do the questions in your text books.

  12. How must you Learn? • Things that you got wrong during the term – make sure you can do them now. • Things you did not understand – make sure you understand them now. Work with friends and ask each other questions. Work on your own.

  13. Subjects where there is a lot to remember. • Sit down somewhere where it is quiet, and read what you must learn, aloud. • Write down what you must learn. • Even rewrite your class notes. Write down what you must learn. Rewrite your notes. Read aloud to yourself. Writing helps you to remember things.

  14. Learn Meanings and Definitions. • You must know the meanings of everything you learn. • You must know definitions by heart. • Write things down. Write down words and their meanings. Sit and explain everything to yourself. Write out definitions you must know. Writing helps you to remember things.

  15. How do you know when you know something? • You know something when you can explain it to others. • Start by explaining it to yourself. • Then explain it to someone else. Then explain it to someone else. Explain everything to yourself first. If you can do this, you know it.

  16. A Warning – Chinese Proverb • He who works regularly will find tests and exams easy. • He who leaves everything to the day before will not do well. Try to do a little revision every day. Then, when the exams come you will have very little to do.
