  1. How to Study Learning is a Life Long Process

  2. Homework=Study? • Is 5=3? No • Homework helps with a present topic and prepares you for tomorrow. • Study is a general review of all content learned and prepares you for exams.

  3. Extra Curricular Activities • There must be a balance between curricular and extra curricular lives. • If you are doing something every night perhaps you are doing too much. • Remember, you cannot do everything and please everyone; be they your friends, your parents or your coaches.

  4. Homework • It is important to begin study as soon as you come home from school. Your brain will be functioning at optimum level and putting off homework until later will lead to cramming. • Start with your weakest and get it out of the way first.

  5. Study • Study should be done after your homework is completed and is not an excuse for the non-completion of homework. • Draw up a study timetable so you can have a schedule to stick to. • Study will bear you in good stead come your summer exams, but more importantly, will make your lives easier next year. • You should pick four weeknights and study for an 1.5 hours/2 hours every night.

  6. Study • Like with your homework, you should begin with your least favourite subject. • If it helps, split your timetable in half and take a break. You should reward yourself for hitting targets such as after 45 minutes study, getting yourself a cup of tea.

  7. Study Tips • Simply reading your text books is not studying! You will remember the information tomorrow but in a week’s time it will all be forgotten. • Take your book and highlight the key point(s)of each paragraph. • Then write these brief points out onto flashcards. These can be very helpful for rapid revision before exams. • Break up your time, into twenty minute blocks for each subject.

  8. Study Schedule • Weekdays • Study after homework is complete for 1.5/2hours. • Study 4 nights a week. • Plan study for the nights you are not doing anything. • Weekends • When studying at the weekend DO IT EARLY IN THE MORNING! • If you get up early and study for two hours you’ll have the rest of the day ahead of you. • If you leave it until the evening, after you go out, you will not be capable of focusing on your work.

  9. The Night Before And On The Day • The night before an exam, it is important not to cram. This will undo all your hard work. • If you’ve done your flashcards, this is when they’ll pay off. Use them for rapid revision of the important elements. • On the morning of the exam, make sure to eat a good breakfast. Going in hungry will do you no good. • Make sure to bring in a bottle of water. • Most importantly, stay calm. If you’ve done the study, all the information will be there for you to use.
