Quarter 2 • read & comprehend complex literary and nonfiction text • Refer to details and examples in text to explain answers(1-4 qtrs) • Determine the meaning of mythological words & phrases • Explain differences btw drama, poetry, & prose • Compare & contrast stories told in different points of view Quarter 1 -read accurately & fluently to support comprehension -comprehend fiction & non fiction texts -determine the theme or central idea of a passage(1-4 qtrs) -identify and describe the elements of a story(1-4 qtrs) -describe the overall structure of a text(1-4 qtrs)

Accelerated ReadingA R • Students should have an AR book at all times. • AR is only a part of the Language Arts program. • AR is used as an incentive and a tool to measure student reading growth. • Target score on AR tests is 85% or higher. • Parents can track student AR achievement through Home Connect. Quarter 2 -Composing/Decomposing Fractions -Equivalent Fractions & Comparing -Add & Subtract Fractions & Mixed Numbers -Multiply fractions by whole numbers Quarter 1 Place Value concepts with addition and subtraction Multiples & Factors Multiplication & Division strategies specifically: multiplication w/base ten blocks to develop distributive property, area model division as repeated subtraction, equal groups, and inverse relationships of multiplication; all within the multiplication chart with no remainders Area/Perimeter formulas in relationship to the Area Model of Multiplication
