  1. We are now going to delve into a topic that some of you find most perplexing: Fractions! They will be part of your lives in some fashion – cooking measurements, wrench diameters, sewing and countless other activities The first concept we are going to do is multiplying. I would argue this is the least painful of the operations when it comes to fractions. But first we have to talk about a definition that applies to multiplying fractions.

  2. In mathematics the word “of” means multiplication. So if given a problem like this: 1/3 x 27 it means “what is a third of 27” How would you go about solving this problem?

  3. Now solve the following: ½ x 36 or ½ of 36 1/3 x 36 or 1/3 of 36 ¼ x 36 or ¼ of 36 1/5 x 35 or 1/5 of 35 1/6 x 36 or 1/6 of 36 1/7 x 35 or 1/7 of 35 1/8 x 32 or 1/8 of 32 1/9 x 36 or 1/9 of 36 1/10 x 30 or 1/10 of 30 1/11 x 33 or 1/11 of 33 Now complete the worksheet that I going to hand out!
