  2. I. Moving Toward War • Japanese aggression in China leads to warnings from the United States. • Japan ignores warnings.

  3. I. Pearl Harbor • December 7, 1941. • At 7:55am the first wave of Japanese attack planes strike the naval base • at Pearl Harbor.

  4. In the summer of 1941FDR freezes all Japanese assets in the U.S. • Stops all oil sales and scrap metal sales. • Japan is OUTRAGED.

  5. We are completely surprised! • Tora, Tora, Tora. Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. • The Japanese attempt a knock out blow! • Their need for oil motivates this attack • “I fear we have awoken a sleeping giant!”
