  2. Today we are going to visit the capitol of Virginia…. So, find a buddy, and a comfortable seat. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sights as we travel to… Richmond, VA!

  3. From Arcola Elementary (Aldie, VA) to Richmond, VA it is 115 miles! If we were travelling in a bus that would take a little over 2 hours! Using the map, highlight the route that we would take to get from Arcola to Richmond. Virginia Aldie Richmond What direction(s) we will be travelling?

  4. Did you know that Virginia is the site of many famous battles fought during the Civil War? . We will be making two detours on our trip to Richmond today in order to see some of these battlefields.

  5. First stop… Manassas, VA! There were two Civil War battles that were fought here. The Battle of First Manassas (1861) and The Battle of Second Manassas (1861) – also known as The Battle(s) of Bull Run. The South won both of the Manassas battles.

  6. Next stop… Fredericksburg, VA! Fredericksburg was the scene of two major battles. Both times, the fighting centered on Marye's Heights, a ridge one-half mile in the rear of the town. The Confederate army (South) won both of the battles in Fredericksburg.

  7. Final Destination… Richmond, VA! Richmond is the capitol city of Virginia.
