  7. The first day of deer hunting season is always an exciting one. I wake up before the sun rises, and I am out to my deer stand about a half an hour before the light starts to break through the trees. This is about six in the morning. I then sit there for about four or five hours. These hours can be very long if I don’t see anything. I’ll get up and walk around for a bit, go to the bathroom and then get back in my stand for another hour or so. I then head over to my dad’s stand, and we eat lunch. Our lunch always consists of sandwiches and noodle soup. I then will head back to my deer stand for the rest of the afternoon. The few hours before four o’clock are usually slow, so I often will take a nap. When the day is over, we head back to my grandma’s and get ready to do it all over the next day.

  8. From the moment I saw him on the street, I knew this was a man with many stories to tell. His rugged black combat boots were worn down nearly to the soles. He much have walked many a mile in these. Because his baggy green army pants over lapped on to his boots, I could not tell if he wore socks or not. Above the pants, this mysterious man wore a torn black tank top with the letter “POW MIA” printed on the front in white. On top of the shirt, the probable veteran of war wore a loose leather vest. His chest and upper arms appeared to be rather muscular. He was in very good shape for his old age. On his left upper arm, the man had a large tattoo of a serpent. Down in his left hand he carried two plastic shopping bags. When I crossed his body to look at his right arm, I was in for a surprise. On his right arm he carried nothing, for he did not have one. Had he lost it in combat? Was it an old war wound? Over his arm and chest sat his head. A cigarette stuck out of his mouth. His teeth looked like broken windows; he was missing many. On the top of his head, his cloudy eyes were almost completely hidden beneath his long, uneven strands of ivory hair. The hair was extremely messy and looked as though it had not been washed or groomed in several days. Could he be homeless? Obviously, this man was very intriguing and he prompted many questions to enter my mind. He must have many, many stories to tell.

  9. Winter DrivingIf you ever need to drive in snowy, winter conditions, knowing five steps possibly can save your life. First, be sure your car is ready for winter weather. For the best traction and response time on snow and ice, check the tread and the air pressure in your tires. Check that your battery is working properly, that your car has the required level of antifreeze, and that the windshield-washing fluid is no-freeze fluid. Second, stock your car with emergency roadside supplies. Have a flashlight, jumper cables, a shovel, chains, warning flares or flashing lights, blankets, an ice scraper, and an abrasive material, such as sand or cat litter, for traction should you get stuck.

  13. Shark Attack!

  14. The shark’s jaw is located far back beneath his long snout, but this does not prevent him from biting directly into the flesh. When he opens the jaw, the lower jawbone is thrust forward while the snout is drawn back and up, until it makes almost a right angle with the axis of his body. At this moment, the mouth is located forward of the head and no longer beneath it. It resembles a large wolf trap, equipped with innumerable sharp and gleaming teeth. The shark plants this mechanism in the body of the victim and uses the weight of his own body in a series of frenzied convulsions, transforming the teeth of the jawbones into saws. The force of this sawing effect is such that it requires no more than an instant for this shark to tear off a splendid morsel of flesh. When the shark swims off, he has left a deep and perfectly outlined hole in the body of his victim. It is terrifying and nauseating to watch.
