CHMPR: A Productive Year 2 • Dr. AlenkaZajic joined as Associate Directory • Peter Wan hired to manage growing IT issues • Conducted 2member-funded research projects • Won 4 other research awards: • 2) a NSF Fundamental Research Project (FRP) award for a 3-site, joint project involving a new topic, simulation of situational awareness; • 3) a NSF RAPID MRI (H/W) award at all sites involving a cloud sensor network for tracking oil spills. Required university matching funds. • 4) NSF REU awards for two undergraduate students. • CHMPR-GT funds supported partially or 11 students and 3faculty. • 19 CHMPR_GT research related publications: 2 journal articles; 1 edited book of proceedings; 16 conf. papers

  4. Membership • The good: • Oracle Sun Labs joined the site • The bad: • For financial reasons, IBM cannot renew • The future: • Samsung signing paperwork, strong interest from NVIDIA and Qualcomm (Snapdragon)

  5. What’s going on? • Georgia Tech site focus has shifted from… software applications for multi/manycore • …to hardware/compiler (systems) for hybrid multi/manycore • Ramp-up and ramp-down effects

  6. CHMPR Year 2 Funded Projects • Algorithms for hybrid multicore & multithreaded systems; Intel, IBM Complete • Optimizing manycore computational efficiency and use of GPU manycores for a broad class of problems; NG Complete • New project proposal with Oracle Sun Labs

  7. Potential Future CHMPR Plans • Year 3 New Thrusts • A. FIRMEE- A Framework for Information Research to Mitigate Extreme Events (CHMPR, U/MN,U/FL, FIU) • B. Genomic based Personalized Medicine (UMBC,UMMS) • C. Decentralized Cloud Computing Services (CHMPR) • D. Social Media Data Mining Appliance (UMBC, Ga. Tech) • E. Expand CHMPR University Sites and IAB Members • F. Manifold hybrid multi/manycore simulator framework (Ga. Tech)
