We are a team of advisors who: • Know the demands associated with studying, working and living in another country • Available to assist our international population with matters related to: Immigration, Employment, Health Insurance, Income Tax Regulations, Social Security, Driver’s License, Medical Care, Housing, Financial Aid, Personal Concerns

  4. Top Reasons to contact ISSS • J-1 visitor delayed arrival • Faculty or scholar leaving position early • Offers for outside employment • Increase worker salary or responsibilities • Change in site of activity

Reminder: J-1 Scholar Orientation • Exchange Visitors must attend Orientation at ISSS office upon arrival in order to be validated in SEVIS - within 30 days! • J-1 Scholar Orientation is mandatory and has important immigration consequences – it is required by the State Department. • Monday & Wednesday at 2 pm - to be scheduled via the web at: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/scholars • We present information about immigration, SSN, taxes, driver’s licenses, and family activities • Scholar must bring: passport, visa, I-94 card, DS-2019 form(s), DS-7002 (if applicable), proof of insurance for the entire family.

Additional Services • Insurance • J-1 Exchange Visitors are eligible to purchase medical insurance through ISSS from the Academic Health Plans/BlueCross BlueShield (AHP/BCBS) insurance company • An Insurance Advisor is available by appointment • More information: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/insurance

Additional Services • Taxes • ISSS provides assistance for filing non-resident U.S. tax returns • Tax Advising appointments are available from approximately February – April of each year • Those paid by UT Austin will be required to complete an online GLACIER profile though Payroll Services • additional information: http://world.utexas.edu/isss/tax
