Common Threads • Non Discrimination principle (in terms of women but not sexuality) • Gender, GBV, HIV and AIDS policies • Some big gaps around the criminalisation of marital rape…except Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa • Equality clauses not translated into reality • Women’s Rights/Family( Inheritance, maintenance, marriage, child custody, divorce, administration of estates) Preliminary findings, 30 November 2012

Outstanding issues (Differences) • Rwanda: D.V clause in the Constitution • Zimbabwe: Lack of gender equality principle in the Constitution • Angola: Sexuality clause in the Constitution • Angola: Lack of comprehensive law on Child rights • Zimbabwe: Elaborate framework on maintenance, marriage, inheritance and property in marriage • Swaziland: Conditional rights for women • Rwanda and Zimbabwe: National plans on women, girls and HIV • Mozambique: Respect clause and women’s economic empowerment in the Constitution; HIV integrated in D.V law Preliminary findings, 30 November 2012
