  1. Welcome to the World Geography Bowl at the Plymouth State University October 31, 2008

  2. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Each game consists of two rounds of: 6 toss up questions (4 written traditional questions) (2 visual questions: maps, diagrams, images) 2 team questions

  3. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Toss up questions: As the question is being read, the first person to “buzz in” may try to answer the question. If they are correct they receive the points and the game proceeds to the next question. If they are wrong, then the rest of the question is read and is shown on the screen and a member from the other team has a chance to answer the question. There is no team assistance on any toss up questions.

  4. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Team questions: At the end of the toss-up round each team will have a chance to answer a team question. Unlike the toss up questions, all team members assist on answering the question, usually a list of things. Once the team provides the answer they receive points for each correct answer. If they did not have a complete answer, then the other team has a chance and if they name any correct answers that the other team did not, then they get points for those correct answers. Then the other team gets a team questions and if all of the answers are not correct the first team gets a try.

  5. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Officials: Each session will have a moderator, at least one official score keeper and at least one judge. If necessary the judge can call on assistance from the score keeper and the moderator for judgment calls.

  6. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Challenges: If at any point a team feels that something unfair has occurred, they have the right to challenge the results. The captain of the team will lodge the “complaint” and the judge(s) will rule on the complaint.

  7. World Geography Bowl - 2008 Bowl Methods Final Round: The two teams with the best records (wins vs. losses) will play the Final Round which has the same rules as all of the other rounds. If teams are tied with the same record, then total points are used to break the tie.
