  1. How young people and schools benefit from effective partnerships between education and employers www.inspiringthefuture.org

  2. Education and Employers Taskforce An independent charity: Established in 2009 Our vision: to ensure that every school and college has an effective partnership with employers to provide its young people with the inspiration, motivation, knowledge, skills and opportunities they need to help them achieve their potential and so to secure the UK's future prosperity. Our Partnerships Board Senior representatives of the national organisations representing schools and colleges; ...and employers;

  3. Inspiring Governors launched on 15thMay 2014 and is a major new alliance launched to celebrate and promote the importance of school governors. • The Inspiring Governors Alliance brings together wide range of organisations to demonstrate their public commitment to high quality school and collegegovernance. Organisations include the Government (Department for Education and the Department for Business Innovation and Skills), those representing employers (such as the CBI and FSB); governors (such as the National Governors’ Association, NCOGS and SGOSS); Professional Bodies representing the teaching profession (such as the AoC, ASCL, CIPD and NAHT); numerous private and third sector organisations and many leading employers. • The Alliance aims to: inspire more high calibre people to volunteer as governors; inspire more employers about the benefits of supporting their staff to be governors; and inspire more governing bodies to actively recruit governors for their skills. This is more important than ever as high quality governance is central to the success of our increasingly autonomous education system. • The Education and Employers Taskforce charity was asked by the Department for Education to lead on putting together the Inspiring Governors website – www.inspiringgovernors.orgso that governors can sign up and search for volunteers that have expressed an interest in having an exploratory chat about becoming a governor where your school is located.

  4. What is Inspiring the Future? • Inspiring the Future is a FREE service for your teachers whereby employees from all sectors and professions from Apprentices to CEOs pledge one hour a year to volunteer to go into state schools and colleges to talk about their jobs, careers, and the education routes they took • Volunteers can indicate whether they are interested in being contacted by a local schools/college about a number of specialisms/activities and as part of Inspiring Governors, governors can now register and message volunteers who have expressed an interest in having an introductory conversation about becoming a school governor • It is a FREE service endorsed by Government (with cross-party support), the UK’s main teacher and employer representative organisations and many leading employers • It makes a difference to young people. Good quality research shows that who you meet as a teenager shapes the success with which young people go into adult life • Teachers overwhelmingly want young people to hear more from people in the workplace

  5. We have signed up over 14,000 volunteers from 4,000 different organisations and our growth is steadily rising • Nearly 1,000 volunteers have indicated that they are happy to be contacted by a school/college in relation to having a introductory conversation about becoming a school governor • Over 4,600 teachers from two thirds of schools and colleges have already signed up, and we have recently launched our Primary Futures campaign to primary schools • Over 27,000 messages have been sent from volunteers to teachers with over 21,000 since Sept 13 School Teacher Cumulative Line Graph Volunteer Cumulative Line Graph

  6. Benefits for Governors • Benefits for Teachers - Over 14,000 diverse volunteers waiting for teachers to invite them to talk to their pupils about their jobs, and the routes they took to get there, or even CV and interview insights at the click of a button • Benefits for Governors – Nearly 1,000 diverse volunteers waiting for school governors to invite them for an introductory conversation about becoming a school governor How does it work • When teaching staff/governors log on to the system, they get a list of all those people registered in their area and it’s a simple process to send a message through the system to get in touch "She has volunteered to help us once a month which is great news. She’s so far carried out one session and is due to do another this Friday, 14th February. The applicants really enjoyed the session and it was great to have help from such an enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteer. In fact, 2 out of the 6 applicants who attended the session on 17th January, have since secured an Apprenticeship position which is brilliant". Northampton College
