  2. Public/Private VenturesP/PV A national intermediary that seek improves the lives of people who live in poor community. P/PV approaches in work in three ways: innovation, research and action. • First, we work with leaders in the field to identify promising existing programs or develop innovative new ones. • We rigorously evaluate these programs to determine what is effective and what is not. • Then, we promote proven models by expanding them to new locations, providing technical assistance where needed and informing practitioners and policymakers about what works.

Organizational Assessment • P/PV staff uses a detailed site assessment tool to gauge organizational and programmatic strengths and weaknesses. • We do a thorough review of the existing programs, program management, overall goals and outcomes. • We review finances and administration. • We assess internal controls and systems. • We make recommendations for addressing weaknesses both before and as the new program is being implemented.

Organizational Development • Development of a rigorous MIS data management system for site monitoring and program improvement. • Implementation evaluation: early review of what’s working, what’s not and why, to then recommend improvements • Support and on-going feedback on compliance with data collection and research efforts • Fiscal management that ensures accountability and compliance • Financial sustainability, training and support

Programmatic Development • Provide support and strategies for in-depth development of all program components • Provide ongoing, detailed feedback on the implementation of all program components • Create and monitor work plans • Ensure solid strategies and steps are in place to meet project benchmarks • Facilitate effective partnerships with government agencies, businesses and FCBO’s

Technical Assistance and Expert Staff to Support the FBCO • Provide support to the site through the services of an experienced P/PV Program Officer (PO) • PO is site’s main point of contact with P/PV • PO makes monthly (one-to-two day) on-site visits to provide TA and programmatic monitoring • PO has frequent phone conversations, monthly phone audits and written correspondence • PO offers sites extensive experience in designing, implementing and managing complex program components • PO is knowledgeable of modes and governance structures for program areas (e.g. re-entry, mentoring, and labor markets)

Rigorous Researchand Evaluation • P/PV researchers conduct intensive quarterly on-site research and operational assessments. • P/PV researchers provide intensive programmatic reviews that offer information and feedback to the site about project progress. • P/PV researchers meet with the organization’s executive director, program staff and board representatives. • P/PV researchers assess each organization’s progress against the benchmarks. • P/PV researchers provide feedback to each organization that is aimed at improving management, program design and implementation.

  9. Sustainability for Organizations and Programs • P/PV’s goal is to leave strong organizations and programs in place at the end of a demonstration. • Of the 17 organizations in Ready4Work, 14 are still operating and providing reentry services. • The Amachi program is now integrated into the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America mentoring strategy. • P/PV’s Labor Market Initiatives developed a cadre of strong leaders through the Leader’s Academy and stronger local organizations involved with sector initiatives. • Local churches and small community-based organizations in all programs are equipped with new skills and techniques to ensure long-term sustainability.
