  1. Paper Men to Air Hopes and FearsBy Robert Francis Rebecca Schlafke September 25, 2013 JLS individual project

  2. ROBERT FRANCIS Robert Francis was born in Upland, Pennsylvania in 1901. He attended Harvard University and after he graduated he moved to a house in Massachusetts and named it “Fort Juniper.” This inspired editors at the University of Massachusetts to name their poetry award the “Juniper award.” Francis wrote many pieces such as The Disengaging Eagle, Fall, and The Mouse Who’s Name is Time. Many believed that Francis may have be the 20th centuries poet because his writing was so precise and even may have followed in the steps of Emily Dickinson and Robert Frost but this was always a secret until now. Francis then died at age 86 in 1987 but his writing will continue to educate and inspire.

  13. Speaker Four

  14. Speaker Five

  15. I am probably most like Speaker 5. I am not a very daring person and I am perfectly okay with being in a secure environment with hope in the best. The thing that reassured me that I was most like Speaker five is when they talked about hope. Hope plays a very important role in my life. It gets me through a lot probably just like it got the paper man through his days in the filing cabinet. One day I will do something completely daring like Jonathan Livingston Seagull did but for now I will stick with riding an occasional roller coaster.

  16. Jonathan Livingston Seagull &Paper Men To Air Hopes and Fears Jonathan Livingston Seagull and Paper Men To Air Hopes and Fears are a great pair as I like to see it and as Mrs. Harrell has taught us. After we watched the JLS movie and discussed some of the handouts and quotes Mrs. Harrell read us this poem by Richard Francis. When we first looked at this poem Mrs. Harrell asked us which of the Speakers we think Jonathan would be. I chose the wrong answer, Speaker 5. I now realize that even if speaker 5 has hope Jonathan was a lot more daring and driven. He wouldn’t sit in a filing cabinet all day. He would come out of his folder and experience the danger up close and would never regret it because when you have a dream you must go after it even if there are obstacles.
