  1. Being a dentist By Andrew Barker

  2. Why I want to be a dentist • They make a lot of money • I like working with people • I like to clean teeth • Not very much travel • Not too stressful of a job

  3. Ohio State University • I would take different Science and English classes at the university to help get a degree • For Ohio State I would take a few years to get my bachelor’s degree there for pre-dentistry • Then I would get a dentist’s office around the area I would like

  4. University of Michigan • Then I would try to get into Michigan to finish my dental degree • I would go there for two years and go into the doctor of dental academic program http://www.dent.umich.edu/admissions

  5. What qualifications I need to become one • Recommends two years of college, but most of them will take four years to be a dentist • You get either an associates or bachelors degree • They would like more people to have a bachelors degree • Take many classes at college

  6. The salary for dentists • 133,000 dollars for around the Mason/Dansville area to be a dentist • 30,000 to be a dental assistant • 60,000 dollars to be a dental hygienist • I would like to be a dentist more than the rest

  7. What dentists do • They check on people’s teeth for cavities, injuries and or diseases • They recommend different medicines and if braces or surgeries are needed • They clean people’s teeth

  8. Pros • Earn lots of money • Stay in a similar area • An easy job after the 8 years to become one • Cons • Have to look at some nasty looking teeth • Takes a long time to become one

  9. Other facts • There has been around 141,000 jobs for dentists in recent years • Most are general practitioners, then orthodontists, then oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and the least amount is prosthodonists • There are 56 dental schools total in the United States of America http://careerplanning.about.com/od/occupations/p/dentist.htm

  10. Most plans dentists do • First they get either an associates or bachelors degree • Most dentists will first buy another dentist’s office and call it there own • They hire some workers and get started on their business

  11. When I got interested • I got interested last year • I like going to the dentist

  12. Goals • My goals are to get my bachelors or associates degree at college to meet my large goal, to become a dentist • To meet this goal, I will work hard in school to keep my grades up, do my homework, and try my best in school • Another way to meet this goal is to do dentistry over the summer during high school and college to get me prepared to be one in the future

  13. How I will use my training in the future • I will use my training in college to become a dentist • First I will try to buy a retired dentist’s office and start my business there • If I can’t buy one, I will start off as a hygienist • If I be a hygienist, I would still look for other offices to buy • Once I do finally get an office, I plan to hire some other employees to help out
