Benefits of ACCEL at Georgia Highlands College • We have approximately 16 years of experience with this kind of program. • Become better prepared for the culture and rigors of college • Earn both college and high school credit simultaneously • Graduate from college ahead of your peers • Classes you take at GHC do not count against HOPE scholarship attempted hours. The HOPE scholarship will stay pay for four years of college!

More Benefits • The classes you take at GHC are transferable. • GHC offers flexible schedules of morning, afternoon, evening, and online classes. • ACCEL students can be full-time or part-time. • Do you have baseball practice at night? Take a morning class with GHC. Beta club meeting in the morning? Take afternoon classes. We will work with your schedule to find the best fit for you. • We have convenient locations. The Paulding Campus is located in downtown Dallas in the former courthouse.

Study Abroad • GHC offers a variety of study abroad opportunities for students. • Past trips: Australia, Europe, and Costa Rica • Summer 2012: • -Germany • -Greece, Italy, and Aegean Islands • -Ireland • *Student may be eligible to participate, but ACCEL funds are not available during the summer semester.

Eligibility for the ACCEL Program • U.S. citizen or an eligible Non-Citizen for 12 consecutive months. • Must be a Georgia resident in accordance with the in-state tuition policy of the Board of Regents. • Registered with the Selective Service (male student who is 18 years or older.) • Must not be in default of any federal or state educational loan or grant. • Felony offense involving marijuana, controlled substances or dangerous drugs will disqualify you from the program.

Academic Requirements for the ACCEL Program • 3.0 GPA in HS core classes • SAT score totaling 1000 (500 Verbal and 500 Math) required • ACT Composite of 21 (21 English and 21 Math) required **Students should meet with their high school counselor to determine if the ACCEL program is a good fit.

  13. Admissions Process - ACCEL Program • GHC Paper application for admissions w/ $20 Fee • Official HS Transcript directly from the HS • Official SAT or ACT scores if not on the HS Transcript • Complete the ACCEL application online at www.gacollege411.org • Proof of Lawful Presence

  14. Recent updates and reminders about ACCEL program • Hours earned through ACCEL program WILL NOT count towards 127 max HOPE hours. The HOPE scholarship will pay for 127 credit hours AND all classes completed through the ACCEL program. • Out-of-pocket fees for GHC students: $247 if taking less than 6 credit hours and $267 if taking more than 6 credit hours (2 or more classes) • Students must purchase their own books. The GHC bookstore sells new and used books, or you can rent your books.

  15. Dates to Remember • April 1 – Priority Deadline for Acceptance into the ACCEL program for Fall semester (We cannot guarantee class availability for those applying after this date) • If applying for spring semester, the priority deadline is November 1. • Please check back with us or your counselor later this year for any ACCEL program changes that are going to be made by either GHC or because of changes from the GA Dept. of Education

So in review..Steps to enrollment! • Meet with your high school counselor to determine eligibility and to talk about classes that will be taken at the college level. • Complete the Application process for GHC: • Paper Application W/ $20 Fee • Submit transcript directly from the High School • Submit official qualifying SAT or ACT scores • Complete the online ACCEL application at www.gacollege411.org. • Turn in your immunization record. • Contact Charlotte Hall with questions or concerns about ACCEL program.
