The Toymaker And The Bird • Author Pamela Allen • A man with a fiddle who plays to the birds • The pictures are drawn with pencil or water colour, lots of hatching, rounded shape • The illustrations tell their own story • The most interesting picture is from deeper in the forest • It’s sunset, the hills are pink and the trees are green clouds the birds are streaming into the canopy

  3. The Terrible Plop • Author Ursula Dubosarsky • An apple tree ,a rabbit and a bear • The pictures were hand drawn • The pictures illustrate the words

  4. Lone Pine • Author Susie Brown and Margret Warner • Lone pine looks like a book about a pine cone that was first to fall • Water crayons and paint • The role the pictures have are to show what it would look like and how it would feel • Outcast and sad • The image has the pine alone

Mirror • Author Jeanie Baker • About a boy’s life • The pictures are mainly collages; bits of wool , dirt, leaf and paper • The pictures tell the story entirely • The pictures make the reader feel as if you are part of the picture • One of the most interesting pictures is the one that has a boy and his family unrolling a carpet

Little Beauty • Author Anthony Browne • The cover shows a big gorilla and a small cat • The illustrations are sketched • The pictures show emotions rather than just the story • Looking at the pictures makes you feel you are on the other side of the room • The gorilla with the cat on his head is one of the best pictures.

Uno’s Garden • Author Graeme Base • About Uno and mystical animals that share a beautiful forest. • The pictures are drawn with pencil. • I think the pictures show that we don’t have to be selfish. • I like how the pictures are detailed and beautiful. • I like the cover because all the animals are there.

Old Riddly • Author Garry Crew • An old invention • A lot of the pictures are drawings combined with painting • The pictures show more abstract ideas • The pictures are from Joachin’s point of view and show how he is curious • The picture of the house on the first page is one of the best images.

In The Beech Forest • Author Garry Crew • The cover shows a very strong forest • The pictures are drawn with pencil • The pictures are drawn to give a rough representation • The pictures follow the boy and are a bit scary • Page 27 the heart of the forest is one of the best pictures from the book
