Main Features of Graphic Text Purpose:could be to inform, explain, persuade, entertain, tell a story Characteristics: Graphic features: charts, timelines, photos and drawings, symbols Print Features: font size, subheadings, labels, captions, titles, font types, bullets Layout Features: table of contents, keys, legends Design Features: line, colour, shape, placement, focal point

  3. Task Hurdles (page 22) 1. Make a prediction based on the first three frames of the graphic text. Write them down. 2. Read the four speech bubbles (page 23) and make another prediction. Write it down. 3. Read the entire text on both pages. How close were your predictions? Summarizethe entire graphic text in 50 words. 4. Analysis questions: What do you think is the main message of this text? Does the boy’s attitude show stereotyping, prejudice, or neither? What is the effect of the close up on the coach’s eyes on two of the frames? 5. Connection question: How are you like the main character in that you have “hurdles” to jump everyday? Explain.
