Course objectives and description: • Basic methods and models of production management and operations research. • Inventory control and demand forecasting. • Emphasis is on analytical techniques of POM and modern topics such as lean production involving just-in-time systems, computer-integrated manufacturing, etc POM - J. Learning objectives: • Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: • Demonstrate a competent knowledge of the basic methods and models of production management and operations research • Discuss the various elements of inventory control and demand forecasting • Analyze and evaluate the various techniques of operations research • Define and illustrate the use of such systems as lean production and computer integrated manufacturing • Demonstrate a familiarity with the assigned additional readings POM - J. Case presentations • Case presentations will take place during every class. • 22 cases have been scheduled • Every student must choose presentation dates • The number of cases each student must present depends on the overall number of students in the class • Cases will be forwarded to students by instructor • Presentations will take place at the beginning of the classes • Presentations should be made using Powerpoint • Contents of the presentations • Contents of the case • Personal opinion about the contents • Difficult points (not understood, unclear, etc.) • Class discussion about the presentation POM - J.
