  2. Ceramic Abstracts SFX software links online database citations to the full text of a library’s electronic journals.

  3. Clicking on the SFX button takes you to a screen that shows where the full text can be found. Clicking on this link takes you to the online journal.

  4. ILL example #1 Medline

  5. SFX searches GIL catalog by ISSN. No matches.

  6. Patron chooses ILL option.

  7. SFX transfers citation information to online ILL form.

  8. ILL example #2 WorldCat record shows that Georgia Tech owns this. Click on SFX.

  9. Patron chooses to search the catalog.

  10. SFX did not find item in GT catalog.

  11. Separate search in GT catalog retrieves record.

  12. Patron chooses ILL option.

  13. ILL request is made for item already owned by GT Library.

  14. ILL example #3 Environmental Sciences & Pollution Mgmt.

  15. Patron chooses ILL option.

  16. Too little citation information transferred. Database name difficult to determine.

  17. Impact of SFX on ILL @ Georgia Tech: • Increased workload - rough estimate of 20% - 25% • increase in copy requests for fall 2003 vs. fall 2002 • Additional staff time spent verifying incomplete • citations • Additional staff time spent in communication with the • requestor if the Library already owns the item
