Best Practices CONTINUAL CERTIFICATION Coaches Exam Every year, coaches must demonstrate knowledge of applicable NCAA rules by passing a standardized national test covering: Bylaw 10 - Unethical Conduct Bylaw 12 – Amateurism Bylaw 13 – Recruiting Bylaw 14 – Eligibility Bylaw 15 – Financial Aid Every coach must take and continue to take the NCAA Coaches Exam until a passing score (80%) is achieved. Until the passing score is achieved, no off-campus recruiting contacts or evaluations are permitted.

  19. Best Practices FORMS Recruiting Forms All of the forms that you need for recruiting are found on the athletics web site. The recruiting logs and unofficial visit logs should be submitted by the 10th of each month for the preceding month.

Best Practice In your office or cubicle, place a recruiting log and unofficial visit form on the wall or by the phone or computer and record all phone calls, e-mail correspondence (with attachments), evaluations and contacts as they happen, instead of trying to remember information several weeks after it occurs.

Best Practice In your office or cubicle, place a recruiting log and unofficial visit form on the wall or by the phone or computer and record all phone calls, e-mail correspondence (with attachments), evaluations and contacts as they happen, instead of trying to remember information several weeks after it occurs. It would also be helpful to place a recruiting calendar in your office and home, so you will be fully aware of any NCAA dead periods, contact periods, evaluation and quiet periods.

Practice logs are to be submitted on a weekly basis throughout the academic year, whether it is your championship segment, non-championship segment or out of season activities.

The recruiting logs and unofficial visit logs should be submitted by the 10th of each month for the preceding month. Best Practice Place your practice log for that particular week on a clipboard and bring it with you to practice. Then, just take attendance of each student-athlete and record how many hours for each activity (practice, meetings, film review, etc.)

Best Practice Place your practice log for that particular week on a clipboard and bring it with you to practice. Then, just take attendance of each student-athlete and record how many hours for each activity (practice, meetings, film review, etc.). It would also be helpful to know and understand CARA (Countable Athletic ally Related Activities) and what counts towards your team’s and individual student-athlete’s countable daily and weekly hours. Also, what constitutes “voluntary” activities as well.
