  2. Introduction • For sports lighting applications, Life & Reliability is key. Most of the installations have a limited number of burning hours per year, though during these hours a very limited failure-rate is acceptable

Introduction • A few lamp-manufacturers offer 2000W Short Arc lamps, though the majority has a very short lifetime, meaning very high Costs of Ownership : • - frequent high exchange costs • - frequent hassle / dark spots • and…… lack of confidence that the installation will perform properly during the match to come……

Introduction • Philips set a target to come up with a lamp: • Having the best lifetime and reliability as offered by benchmark competition, while….. • Having the same mechanical and electrical specifications as benchmark competition • From June 2004 onwards, this lamp is available and known as: • MHN-SB Pro 2000W 400V 956 Long Life

  5. Specification • The naming ‘SB’, Short Base, clearly expresses the Shorter outer-dimensions of the new lamp compared to the well-known existing Master MHN-SA 2000W lamps Master MHN-SA 2000W; ‘double pinch’ technology’ MHN-SB Pro 2000W Long Life; ‘single pinch’ technology

  10. Practical Advice • Luminaires need to be properly designed for the very high temperatures in these 2000 W systems. This is valid for all kind of 2000 W lamps available in the market • Luminaires which are not designed properly, will get polluted. This results in the need for regular cleaning of the entire luminaire. Polluted luminaires will result in shorter lamp-life
