  3. BYL Specialist Services • Vision • Helping children and young people overcome barriers faced in achieving independence; building their resilience and unlocking their potential. Delivery Philosophy: • Effective, flexible, aspirational, responsive services which get support to children and young people quickly and make changes to meet emerging needs; • Work with BCC, neighbourhood and citywide partners, through managed, seamless pathways and common ways of working; • Share information to safeguard children and young people • Actively involve children and young people in service design, delivery, and evaluation. • Work collaboratively, positively and with a passion and a will to ‘make things work’ for children and young people. What We Will Deliver • Specialist ‘Level 2’ early intervention targeted support for CYP (8-19 years and up to 24 years with LDD) who are: • experiencing problems with their own or a parent/sibling’s drug or alcohol use (Hidden Harm); • seeking support to make healthy choices about sex and reduce harm; • experiencing emotional or mental distress; • at risk of becoming homeless. and Citywide positive activities programmes – weekly, monthly and residential for • deaf CYP aged 8-19, (up to 24 with LDD) • LGB&T YP aged 13-19 (up to 24 with LDD) In partnership with Bristol City Council

Achieving Outcomes • Increased confidence/self-esteem • Improved communication skills • Acquired new skills/knowledge • Able to make healthier lifestyle choices • Understand their rights and the choices available to them • Choose not to engage in risky/anti-social or criminal behaviour • Able to develop/maintain positive social/family relationships In partnership with Bristol City Council

How We Will Deliver • Short-term evidence-based 1-1 interventions (usually 6-8 weeks), evaluated by children and young people to identify their ‘distance travelled’ to achieve the outcomes each CYP has identified. • Targeted group work • Training Area BYL staff to increase their skills/confidence in working with children and young people with specific issues and promote excellent communication between Area and specialist BYL teams • Positive activities for LGBT and deaf CYP Accessed through • professional referral e.g. learning mentor; • direct contact through scheduled, publicised drop-in sessions; • outreach. In partnership with Bristol City Council

Where We Will Deliver • Schools: universal, non-stigmatising, accessible • YIPs & Choices Programme (year 11 non-attenders) • Locations where Area BYL play and positive activities will be delivered; • City centre bases offering greater privacy (i.e. the Station; Off the Record’s base (St Michael’s Hill); • ‘Non-formal’ settings e.g. parks, in partnership with Area BYL staff and Neighbourhood Partnerships to reduce risky/anti-social behaviour by CYP e.g. underage drinking; to promote community cohesion In partnership with Bristol City Council

  8. Transition To New BYL Service Model • By 1 February 2013 • Implementation, including: • Data collection & systems • TUPE • Interface with BCC BYL Leadership Team In partnership with Bristol City Council
