  2. The Faith • Fully & finally delivered, Jude 3 • Saves sinners who believe it, obey it & continue in it, Col. 1:21-23 • Under attack to cause falling away, 1 Tim. 4:1

  3. Characteristics of the Faith • The faith can be known, Titus 1:1 • Precise & correct knowledge,Col. 2:2-3 • To be established in the faith, Col. 2:6-7 • Not to be deceived by philosophy, 2:8 • Correct knowledge objections, 2 Cor. 13:5; 2 Tim. 4:2-4

  4. Characteristics of the Faith • The faith is sound, Tit. 1:13-14; 2 Tim. 1:13 • Rebuke sin to be sound in the faith • The faith (1:13) is the truth (1:14) • Must be “sound in the faith” & not “turn from the truth” in order to… • Be pure, 1:15 • Know God & be approved for good, 1:16

  5. Characteristics of the Faith • The faith produces unity, Eph. 4:13, 5 • Unity…knowledge…mature…fullness of Christ • One faith, Eph. 4:5 (Jude 3) • Many faiths is division, 1 Cor. 1:10

  6. Characteristics of the Faith • The faith is the basis of our fellowship in Christ, 1 Tim. 1:2; Tit. 3:15 • All are in Christ due to the faith, Eph. 4: 3-7 • Fellowship & unity, Jno. 17:20-21 • Share a common faith because we follow the same system of faith, Tit. 1:4;Gal. 1:23; 2:7-9, 16

  7. Duties Toward the Faith • Stand fast in the faith, 1 Cor. 16:13; Phil. 1:27-28 • Engage and endure (like an athlete in a contest) • Working together through adversity

Duties Toward the Faith • Earnestly contend for the faith, Jude 3 • Some depart from the faith, 1 Tim. 4:1-3 (Jude 4) • Some deny the faith, 1 Tim. 5:8 • Some stray from the faith, 1 Tim. 6:10, 20-21 • Some resist the faith, 2 Tim. 3:6-9 • Satan tries to devour us, so resist “steadfast in the faith,”1 Pet. 5:8-9

  9. Duties Toward the Faith • Examine ourselves, 2 Cor. 13:5 • Can be “in” the faith • Can be “out” of the faith • The faith tells us whether we are right with God or if we are “disqualified” (rejected)

  10. Duties Toward the Faith • Keep the faith, Rev. 14:12; 2 Tim. 4:7-8 • Kept: “to attend to carefully, take care of; to guard…to observe” • Crown: the prize of victors; eternal blessedness, heavenly reward

  11. The Faith The gospel God’s power to save all believers Revelation that produces faith (10:17) Personal Faith Sinner is saved from sin by exercising faith in the gospel (1:5, 16:25-26) Romans 1:16-17
