  3. RESPONSIBLE • Responsibility for yourself • Responsibility for the future • Responsibility for school/home • Make a responsibility goal!

  4. Self Control • Setting limits for yourself • Controlling behavior • Avoiding peer pressure • Eating & Living healthy

  5. Self Control TEST • Do I bump someone back if they bump me in the hall? • If my parents say no, do I get angry and argue? • If my teacher says no …?

  6. Self Control TEST • Do I get even with my brother when he gets into my things? • When my friend wants to do something wrong, what do I do?

  7. What is Initiative ? • Doing instead of complaining • taking on responsibilities • Learning for the sake of knowing • Asking my teacher for the work I missed when absent

  8. What is Punctuality ? • Being on time ! • Not late. • Being prepared. • Get organized = punctuality • Keeping an Organized agenda !!!

  9. What is Self Respect ? • Believing in yourself • Being honest with yourself • Giving yourself positive messages! • Avoiding peer pressure

  10. What is perseverance ? • When the going gets tough … • My fraternity: perge! • Accepting feedback to improve • setting/achieving realistic goals

  11. Perseverance Quiz • Do I work till I finish my HW? • What do I do when I face a roadblock with my work? • Do I work harder at subjects that are difficult? • Do I ask for help when needed?

  12. What is Dependable? • Completing chores and assigned tasks (by parents/teachers) • Completing my share of group work. Can I be counted on? • Fulfilling the obligations I have written in my agenda

  13. What is Gracious? • Is it merely saying “thank you” • kind, courteous, good attitude • not using put-downs • Responding kindly to mean comments • being a “mensh”

  14. What is Respect? • Being able to listen when someone else is talking • using appropriate language • volunteering in your community • cleaning up after others who don’t know (or act) better

  15. What is Respect? • List and describe 2 people you respect and why • List 2 instance where you saw somebody showing respect for another • List an instance where someone missed the opportunity to do so

  16. What is Patience? • …being able to wait your turn • listening to others attentively • keeping a good attitude when you cant go as fast as you want

  17. What is tolerance? • Accepting the opinions of others • appreciating the differences of people and their ideas • not name-calling, nor “tolerating” that behavior in others

  18. What is tolerance? QUIZ • Do I form opinions of other based upon their skin color or religion? • Do I defend my fellow class mates from the bad behavior of others

  19. What is tolerance? QUIZ • Do I use “negative” words in describing other people? • Do I try to accept somebody else’s point of view, or do I get angry instead?

  20. What is honesty? • Telling the truth • Doing your own work • Not taking what is not yours • Not stretching the truth … nor … • Leaving out important details

  21. What is being considerate? • Trying to help others • observing good classroom manners • asking before borrowing • listening before talking

  22. What is loyalty? • Not speaking bad about friends or family behind their backs • supporting friends when faced with peer pressure or harm • believing in what is “right”, and not what the “in” crowd says

  23. What is empathy? • Walking in someone else’s shoes • being kind to others when they have had a bad day • Listening to others, and feeling their happiness or sorrow • Not laughing at someone when faced with embarrassment

  24. What is good citizenship? • Probably be able to do all the words we just discussed • Behaving during the anthem and the “pledge” • being involved in your community • helping those less fortunate
