  1. “Preparing to Enter the Promised Land” (Jeremiah 1)

  2. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • (Joshua 1:4) • "From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. (NKJV) • (Joshua 1:14) • "Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. But you shall pass before your brethren armed, all your mighty men of valor, and help them, (NKJV)

  3. Each Christian Will Be Forced To Face Their Own Battle • (Hebrews 11:32-12:7) • And what more shall I say? For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon and Barak and Samson and Jephthah, also of David and Samuel and the prophets: who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. Women received their dead raised to life again. And others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented-- of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, having obtained …

  4. Each Christian Will Be Forced To Face Their Own Battle • (Hebrews 11:32 - 12:7) • a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us. Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives." If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? (NKJV)

  5. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • (Joshua 1:7) "Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. (NKJV) • (Joshua 1:16) So they answered Joshua, saying, "All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. (NKJV)

  6. Moses was a servant yet was not permitted to enter! • (Numbers 20:8-12) • "Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals." So Moses took the rod from before the LORD as He commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?" Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them." (NKJV)

  7. Orders Must Be Followed Exactly • (Joshua 1:17) • "Just as we heeded Moses in all things, so we will heed you. Only the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses.

  8. Orders Must Be Followed Exactly • (1 John 5:2-3) • By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. (NKJV)

  9. Devoted Obedience • (1 Corinthians 16:15-16) • I urge you, brethren--you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints-- that you also submit to such, and to everyone who works and labors with us. (NKJV)

  10. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • …great courage. • (Joshua 1:6) "Be strong and of good courage… • (Joshua 1:7) "Only be strong and very courageous… • (Joshua 1:9) "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed…

  11. “Christian, Be Brave!” • (1 Corinthians 16:13) • Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. (NKJV)

  12. Be Courageous!Get Ready For Battle! • (Ephesians 6:11-15) • Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; (NKJV)

  13. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • …great courage. • …require us to believe and develop the attitude, “If God be with us, then no man can be against us.”

  14. To develop courage, we must remind ourselves… • (Joshua 1:9) • "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." (NKJV) • (Joshua 1:5) "No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. (NKJV)

  15. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • …great courage. • …require us to believe and develop the attitude, “If God be with us, then no man can be against us.” • …preparation. • (Joshua 1:11) "Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess.'" (NKJV)

  16. We shall all cross over the Jordan into the Promised land someday soon. • (James 4:14) • whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. (NKJV)

  17. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • …great courage. • …require us to believe and develop the attitude, “If God be with us, then no man can be against us.” • …preparation…in knowing the word of the Lord. • (Joshua 1:8) "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (NKJV)

  18. Knowing the word of God will help us to develop the right attitudes. • (1 Corinthians 16:14) • Let all that you do be done with love. (NKJV)

  19. Entering the Promised Land will require… • …a great battle. • …us to obey the Lord. • …great courage. • …require us to believe and develop the attitude, “If God be with us, then no man can be against us.” • …preparation…in knowing the word of the Lord. • …us to reject the rebellious. • (Joshua 1:18) "Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage." (NKJV)

  20. Loving others sometimes means… • Showing compassion/kindness/affection. • Rebuking the sinner… • (James 5:20) • let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. (NKJV)

  21. Loving others sometimes means… • Showing compassion/kindness/affection. • Rebuking the sinner… • Condemning false teachers… • (Titus 1:10-13) • For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain. One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons." This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith, (NKJV)

  22. We too must reject the false teacher and the rebellious. • (Ephesians 5:8-11) • For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. (NKJV)

  23. If we follow the Lord’s instructions, better days lie ahead…. • (Joshua 1:3-4) • "Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. "From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory. (NKJV)

  24. If we follow the Lord’s instructions, better days lie ahead…. • (Joshua 1:15) • "until the LORD has given your brethren rest, as He gave you, and they also have taken possession of the land which the LORD your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and enjoy it, which Moses the LORD'S servant gave you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrise." (NKJV)
