  1. Texas Algebra I Lesson 32: Scale Factor Algebraic Applications

  2. Lesson Objectives: The student will be able to: • Use scale factor to find the unknown coordinate of a dilated figure • Given perimeter, area or volume of similar figures, use scale factor to find the unknown dimension of a given geometric figure

  3. Sample Dilationcoordinate plane • Given that the red and green triangles are similar and the coordinates of point P, find: • The scale factor used to dilate the figure • find y for point P’

  4. Example 1 Problem: The triangles are similar. Find the value of x.

  5. Example 2 Problem: The triangles are similar. Use the given information to find the value of h.

  6. Example 3 Problem: The larger box is 3 times as large as the smaller. • What is the volume of the larger box? • How many of the small boxes will fit into the larger one?

  7. Lesson Objectives: The student will be able to: • Use scale factor to find the unknown coordinate of a dilated figure • Given perimeter, area or volume of similar figures, use scale factor to find the unknown dimension of a given geometric figure
