THREE STRATEGIES AVAILABLE FOR ODOR CONTROL IN WASTEWATER COLLECTION SYSTEMS AND TREATMENT PLANTS. • Preclude foul odors from forming by maintaining aerobic conditions in the wastewater. • Allow the odors to form, draw out the foul gases, and purify with a scrubber or biofilter. • Treat odors with chemical addition (e.g. iron salts, peroxide, nitrate). • UNDER STRATEGY NO. 1, AIR INJECTION IS THE PRIMARY CHOICE. • THERE ARE FOUR (4) OPTIONS UNDER THIS STRATEGY. • Direct injection of air on the discharge side of the pumps. • Venturi aspirators a. on the high pressure discharge side of the pumps • b. create a recirculation system to aerate the wet well. • Air lift pumps. This option is generally used in low lift applications. • U-tube dissolution. U-tube array of piping to produce the aeration.

Remained in operation for about 2 months or until April 1, 2005. Town of Cape Charles, Virginia – Sanitary Sewer Odor Control Placed into operation on October 16, 2006 at the Air Vac Pumping Station where the unit operated intermittently until February 15, 2007. Summary • Odors can be controlled by the following methods: • Air injection to maintain aerobic conditions in the wastewater. • Allow the odors to form, draw out the foul gases and purify with a scrubber or biofilter. • Treat odors with chemical addition (e.g. iron salts, peroxide, nitrate). • Summary for filtercrobe ® • Hydrogen sulfide removal efficiency can be controlled by • Airflow speed • Carbon bed depth. • VOC’s listed as biodegradable compounds,will be removed by the microbial product. • With catalytic carbon in the biofilter, wastewater odor is controlled, specifically for hydrogen sulfide gases. • Microbe bath section of the biofilter typically is discharged into any sanitary sewer system without violating the permitting.
