What is advertising Advertising is the paid, impersonal, one-way marketing of persuasive information from an identified sponsor disseminated through channels of mass communication to promote the adoption of goods, services or ideas. Advertising is the activity or profession of producing advertisements for commercial products or services.

  4. Search engine results page: companies register with large search engines so that their websites appear high up in a list of keyword searches or pay for links that appear when a user does a search

  5. Banner and pop ups These are advertisements that appear at the top of a web page or pop up at the top of your web page these are often animated to attract attention.

  6. Pay per click advertising: If a surfer clicks on an ad they will be redirected to the advertisers website. The website or web page provider will receive a payment for every ad that is clicked on. PPC advertising uses what is known as an affiliate model. Advertisements or links to a company's website are placed on other websites (affiliates) and in return the affiliate sites receives a percentage of the income from any customer that clicks through.

  7. Tesco's Tesco's are clever as they use the club card to help determine what items are popular and when they are popular. This helps them put on offers and send the right special offer carders out.
