  1. What is Truth? Jn. 18:38 38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. Many have differing ideas about truth. Some look at truth as relative. Some look at truth as a concept that is to be built upon. Some look at truth as pertaining to that person, ie. whatever I personally might believe. Some look at truth as inconvenient, old-fashioned, and out of date. Some believe it to be absolute and determined by GOD.

  2. What is TRUTH? • Webster’s defines it as: 2 a (1) : the state of being the case : FACT (2) : the body of real things, events, and facts : ACTUALITY , b: a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true <truths of thermodynamics> c: the body of true statements and propositions. 3 a: the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality bchiefly British: TRUE 2 c: fidelity to an original or to a standard. • Thus, truth is viewed as a constant fact, unending. • In the area of religion, those statements of facts given by deity, or some higher power. A given standard.

  3. 4. Biblical facts are Truth! • The afore-mentioned passages state truths, along with the source of all truth being GOD! • Mal. 2:6 “The law of truth” • 6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. (Levi priests) • Jn. 14:6 “I AM….TRUTH” • 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. • Jn. 16:13 “the Spirit of truth” • 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. • Paul “speak forth the words of truth” Acts 26:25 • 25 But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and soberness. • Jn. 8:32 We need truth! “Truth shall make you free”

  5. Biblical facts are Truth! • The afore-mentioned passages state truths, along with the source of all truth being GOD! • Mal. 2:6 “The law of truth” • Jn. 14:6 “I AM….TRUTH” • Jn. 16:13 “the Spirit of truth” • Paul “speak forth the words of truth” Acts 26:25 • Jn. 8:32 We need truth! “Truth shall make you free” • 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. • This is freedom from the guilt of sin, not freedom to do whatever you will. Vs.34 • 34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

  6. “Truth shall make you free” • Col. 1:5 “ye heard … the word of the truth of the gospel” • 5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; • 1 Tim. 2:7 “speak the truth in Christ” • 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

  7. Resisting the Truth • Remember the nature of truth as being FACT. It is not just a trivial, frivolous statement, but actuality. Denial of the fact will not change the fact nor remove the fact. • Ie.: Laws of nature do not change, though the one that established all standards, had the power to alter those laws, showing HIS power with the supernatural/miracles. After the miracle all laws of nature continue as they were, unalterable. • Rom. 1:18 Some “hold truth in unrighteousness” as if God would set sin as the standard for life. • 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

  8. Character of those who Resist • 2 Tim. 3:1-9 • 1 ¶ This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. • 2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, • 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, • 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; • 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. • 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, • 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. • 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. • 9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.

  9. Character of those who Resist • 2 Tim. 3:1-9 • A matter of folly for the facts, TRUTH, prevails and remains unalterable. • Caused by those who think they can challenge God’s rule over those truths, and alter the facts. • They seek to serve themselves. • Deceive in that they appear to be godly, and aren’t. • See truth in a lie. • 2 Tim. 4:3-4 • 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; • 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. • We must turn away from such people, receive them not into our fellowship.

  10. Conclusion • Truth defined rules out relativity and personal influence establishing the truth. Such may or may not be a fact, or be a part of “the” standard. The nature of truth makes it “timeless”, and it can’t be built upon or altered in any manner. • Truth, therefore, is ABSOLUTE! • Truth is shared with man, that he may please God, and be blessed with the benefits of serving truth. • All blessings are received when God’s truth is received and becomes our truth, the standard for living, including freedom from sin. • Result: All men are responsible to the standard. Thus, obedience isn’t just a requirement, but life itself. • Pilate considered the facts, no fault! The Jews were unable to alter those facts, though they made false charges. • We must consider the facts! • Will you accept or resist God’s precious gift of TRUTH?
