  2. Possessive Pronouns • Let´s look at the possessive adjectives first. • There are two sets. • The first set goes before the noun.

Possessive Adjectives (before the noun) mi / mis my tu / tus your su / sus his, her, your nuestro, -a our nuestros, -as vuestro, -a your vuestros, -as su / sus their your Since they are adjectives, they agree in number and gender (only with our). The change is with the nouns they modify, not with the person(s) who own or possess the object.

Possessive Adjectives (after the noun) mío,mía of Mine míos, mías tuyo, tuya of yours tuyos, tuyas suyo, suya of his,hers of yours suyos, suyas of yours nuestro, -a of ours nuestros, -as vuestro, -a of yours vuestros, -as suyo, suya of thiers suyos, suyas of yours Since they are adjectives, they agree in number and gender. The change is with the nouns they modify, not with the person(s) who own or possess the object.

  6. Possessive Adjectives (after the noun) • el carro mío, los carros míos • (my car, my cars) • la casa mía, las casa mías • (my house, my houses) • el carro suyo, los carros suyos • (his, her car / his, her carros) • la casa suya, las casas suyas • (his, her house / his, her houses)

  7. Possessive Pronouns • To form the possessive pronouns, use the long form of possessive adjectives proceded by the definite article. • Both the article and the possessive must agree in number and gender with the noun they replace.

  8. Possessive pronouns Possessive pronouns are the words which replace nouns modified by possessive adjectives. In Spanish there are different forms of possessive pronouns depending on whether the noun is masculine or feminine, singular or plural. English possessive pronounMasc.   9. Possessive Pronouns • El suéter mío (my sweater - poss. adj.) • El mío (mine – poss. pron.) • La sudadera nuestra (our sweatshirt) • La nuestra (ours – pron.) • El libro suyo (his book – poss. Adj.) • El suyo (his – pron.)

  10. Possessive Pronouns • Mis padres son muy serios. ¿Y los tuyos? • Los míos son bastante divertidos. • Tu familia es muy pequeña. La mía es bastante grande.

  11. Possessive Pronouns • We often omit the article between the verb ser and the possessive pronoun. • Esas maletas son nuestras. • Mi hermano siempre dice que toda la culpa es mía.

  12. AHORA A PRACTICAR • 1. Su muñeca es bonita. • La suya es bonita. • 2. ¿Dónde están nuestros compañeros? • ¿Dóde están los nuestros? • 3. Nuestra risa es grande. • La nuestra es grande. • 4. Tu madrastra es tímida. • La tuya es tímida. • 5. Quiero hablar con su profesor. • Quiero hablar con el suyo.
