Possessive Pronouns • What are possessive pronouns? • They are pronouns which show ownership. • Possessive adjectives describe the noun. • Possessive pronouns take the place of the noun. • Possessive pronouns must be accompanied by definite articles. (el, la, los, las) • Except when the possessive pronouns follow the verb ser.

  3. Possessive Pronouns • Possessive pronouns must agree in number and gender with the noun they are replacing.

  4. Possessive Adjective v. Pronouns • Adjective: My book is on the table • Pronoun: Mine is on the table. • Adjective: Your car is green. • Pronoun: Yours is green. • Adjective: Their house is the third house. • Pronoun: Theirs is the third house.

  5. Possesive Adjectives Remember the possesive adjectives: My – mi(s) Your (s. fam.) – tu(s) His, Her, Your (s. form) – su(s) Our – nuestro(a)(s) Their, Your (pl. form) – su(s)

  6. Possessive Pronouns • Mine (know the gender and number of the noun you are replacing). • El mío (m.s) • La mía (f.s) • Los míos (m.pl) • Las mías (f.pl) Ejemplo: • Adjective: My book is on the table Milibroestá en la mesa. • Pronoun: Mine is on the table. El míoestá en la mesa.

Possessive Pronouns • Yours [fam.s] (know the gender and number of the noun you are replacing). • El tuyo (m.s) • La tuya (f.s) • Los tuyos (m.pl) • Las tuyas (f.pl) Ejemplo: • Adjective: Your book is on the table Tulibroestá en la mesa. • Pronoun: Yours is on the table. El tuyoestá en la mesa.

El suyoestá en la mesa.

El vuestroestá en la mesa.

  12. Possessive Pronouns • When possessive pronouns follow any form of ser, do not use the definite articles. • Examples: • Son mías=They are mine. (shirts-las camisas)” • El carro es tuyo=The car is yours.” • Es suyo=It’s his/hers/yours.”
