  1. RP electronic Training Common Mistakes

  2. Common Mistakes “It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.”

  3. Example #1 Metro Chapter made $3,416.10 on their Cupcake Cook-Off 26 Companies sponsored the event Therefore ... they divided the profits by the number of sponsors … Each company received credit for: $131.39* Non-Honor Level Gifts

  4. A Better Way … Minimum Gift is set at Honor Roll Level All of a certain “type” of sponsorships are automatically invested, i.e. Hole Sponsors Sponsorship package description includes “an Honor Roll Level/$150 donation, etc. to ASHRAE Research” The Chapter automatically Rounds Up the difference

  5. THANK YOU!!! Example #2 Metro Chapter was a bit ... slow … in updating their website … and donor listing in the newsletter … and ordering recognition items They’re a SMALL chapter! No one wants recognition! Someone else is responsible for the Newsletter & webpage! No one cares! Except the $1,500 donor who said “No”

  6. A Better Way … Say it Loudly, Publically and OFTEN Websites Newsletter Display Chapter Meetings Order Recognition items and give them out Contact those that don’t come and ask if you can drop it off

  7. $15,000! 1 (Southland Chapter) Taking all the Credit Example #3 Southland Chapter secured 15 major sponsors & 23 Shoe Sponsors for their Line Dancing Event Dollars Donated to Research: Number of Donors Recognized: Major Sponsor was very unhappy to find out that his $1,000 tax deduction … wasn’t, because ASHRAE has no record of the gift.

  8. A Better Way … Unless it’s your money, don’t take credit for it Designate set sponsorship levels for Special Events Use Chapter Money to recognize non-monetary sponsors Please use common sense & think like a donor No one wants credit for $5

  9. Not asking Example #4 Hightower Chapter has a Society Leader in their Chapter. A Society Leader who gives every year .. fully supports ASHRAE … they write the check, put it in an envelope and it sits there … until he’s asked.

  10. Nothing …. • 2,100 LYBUNTS • $430,000+ • Of those, 900 consistent donors • $175,000
