Monday, April 9, 2012 Due Today: • Walk-In: Pick up a white binder and get ready to record noticings on our first Critical Review Mentor Texts. • If you were not here Friday, see me ASAP. • Learning Objective: • Students will understand that determining criteria for evaluating a literary, artistic, or performance review helps the reviewer determine what perspectives are valuable in a review. • Students will analyze mentor texts to determine the critical attributes of a critical review. • Agenda: • Critical Review Mentor Text #1 Homework: Watch movie and complete notesheet by April 16th .

  3. Mentor Text # 1: Immersion • While reading our first mentor text, please record detailed noticings for the different concepts and questions.

Tuesday, April 10, 2012 Due Today: • Walk-IN: Pick up a white binder and take out your Critical Review Noticing Chart. • Learning Objective: • Students will understand that determining criteria for evaluating a literary, artistic, or performance review helps the reviewer determine what perspectives are valuable in a review. • Students will analyze mentor texts to determine the critical attributes of a critical review. • Agenda: • Mentor Text #2 Homework: Watch movie and complete notesheet by April 16th

Pre-reading • Preview the text: • Title, subtitle, author • Intro & Conclusion • Topic Sentences • Frequent Punctuation • Preview the questions in the noticings chart. • Note Categories that all students should complete • Note specific categories your group is responsible for focusing on today.

  6. Chart Noticings for Mentor Text #2 • All students will record findings for ideas and content. (Front side through Closure on back) • Then complete the individual question assigned to your row in Craft and Style or Conventions.

  7. Analogies Homework • Page 127 and 128. • Identify correct answer and write the type of analogy. • The different types of relationships found in analogies are synonym, antonym, part/whole, characteristic/quality, classification, cause/effect, function, location, degree, performer/action, performer/object, and action/object. • These types are located on page 124.

  8. Thurs-Friday, April 12-13, 2012 Due Today: • Walk-In: Sit quietly and wait until the three mentor texts are passed out, along with you noticing chart. • Learning Objective: • Students will understand that determining criteria for evaluating a literary, artistic, or performance review helps the reviewer determine what perspectives are valuable in a review. • Students will analyze mentor texts to determine the critical attributes of a critical review. • Agenda: • Choice Mentor Texts (Skim three and complete the noticing charts for two) Homework: Watch movie and complete notesheet by April 16th .

Pre-reading • Preview all three texts: • Title, subtitle, author • Intro & Conclusion • Topic Sentences • Frequent Punctuation • Preview the questions in the noticings chart. • Note Categories that all students should complete • Note specific categories your group is responsible for focusing on today. • Choose two out of the three that you would like to record noticings on.

  10. Chart Noticings for Chocie Mentor Texts • All students will record findings for ideas and content first. (Front side through Closure on back) • Then complete what you noticed about craft and style and conventions.
