  1. Yolimar’s Book of Art By Yolimar De Leon Spring 2012

  2. Dedication I dedicate this to my mom who inspires me to do art each day.

  3. Personal Poem By Yolimar De Leon Beltran I am Yolimar De Leon Beltran. My friends call me Yoli because it’ easier for them to say. My real name is dangerous flower of the sea. I think it kind of fits, since I like flowers and the sea. Dangerous stuff is my favorite topic because it’s exciting. The animal inside of me is a wolf. I’m strong and passionate, and I like to stay in groups. But sometimes I have to fend for myself. The object inside of me is a rose. It's beautiful and frail, but also tough and strong. A word that’s written on my forehead is ‘sensitive’ because I feel things stronger than others. A sound I love is Coqies singing. A sound I hate is shrieking.

  4. A smell I love is roses in the bloom of spring. A smell I hate is garbage. My favorite time of day is the afternoon because it’s sunny and it’s lunchtime! If my hands could speak they would say,” Do some more art!” A memory I remember from my childhood is that I threw my sister’s pony up the roof with my cousin. A phrase my family often say to me is “Nina!”

  5. Couplet By Yolimar De Leon MARY ANNE LOU Mary Anne Lou was a beloved soul She was as jumpy as a toad. Her death was a tragedy and very suffering She drowned while she was swimming. Her funeral was held in a gloomy room Who knew she swam to her doom?

  6. Quatrain By Yolimar De Leon LOVE Love is learning to live your life apart While it’s smiling at you from a person’s heart. It’s unknown how powerful it can be Or if it can overpower you completely. The feeling is wonderful like a sweet summer breeze You get really happy and full with glee. As it’s smiling down at you What could you do? It’s like coqies making a song Or birds singing Crickets chirping A mom saying, “ I love you” all along Your family and friends And loved ones too All have the same feeling While they’re looking down at you

  7. Haiku By Yolimar De Leon FOREST IN THE MOONLIGHT Owls fly everywhere Water shimmers with fish scales Darkness fills the air

  8. Limerick By LAMB WITH BROKEN BONES There once was a girl named Gadan That once went went BOOM into a lamb It broke all it’s bones Then called some smaller gnomes Now she rests inside a small dam

  9. Ballad By Yolimar De Leon I DON’T KNOW HOW IT HAPPENED There were happy times before this happened Playing games that were really lame Laughing and singing all day But now it’s just isn’t the same I don’t know how it happened But I can conclude That the only one who knows Is you Sitting in my seat watching that big brown box Everyone is crying even mom but I don’t know why She was so mad and sad that she cried on my dad So I cried and gave I sigh I don’t know how it happened But I can conclude That the only one who knows Is you

  10. About the Author Yolimar De Leon lives in Sterling, Virginia. She was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico. She started writing poems recently and her inspiration is her great-grandmother because she was a poet.

Just the thought of it make’s me laugh The animal in side me is a majestic Condor because they love to sore in the sky and they can also put up a good fight they know they’ll win. An apple is in my heart a hard good looking outside but a sweet inside just like me. The word focus is written on my forehead because as anyone can see I'm not the most focused kid in the world. I love the sound of music and the sound of people laughing. I hate the sound of people yelling at each other. My favorite smell is chocolate and vanilla ice cream I tastes so good and I eat them on any special occasions. My favorite type of day is late at Night because I am not a big fan of the morning. If my hands could speak they would say try again because I have the ability to do something but I decide to do it the least favorable way. One of my favorite memories is when I landed my first kickflip I can still remember how the adrenaline rush. My moms number one rules is a good or positive attitude. She always attitude is what make up a person’s value and how other people think of them.

  14. Couplet Before I was up to bat coach told me something To throw the game like a basketball throw by J-ling. So I see the ball so I swing I start to run when I herd that “bing!!” We won but the coach felt a sting It was until he fell that’s when I knew I lost his ring.

  15. Quatrain I was walking on the street I see a tall man He looks at my feet He puts me in his silent van He says were going to Japan He ties me up and leaves me So I look around I found something on the ground He comes back with a kid I beat the man with pan So me and the kid ran We hid We went to a cop They saw the man and yelled stop We went home And I wasn’t alone

  16. Haiku By JadRaqi Glimmering hive Mother Nature’s winged beast Aerodynamic

  17. Limerick There was a ruler named Jad Who was very cool maybe bad AHHHHH he couldn’t stop whining He wasn’t all that shining Now he wasn’t so sad and mad.

  18. Ballad I remember I got deployed I was stuck with Stone I see civilians dying But I was glad I wasn’t alone War breaks out We scream and shout When that shot fired something was wrong But the soldier next to me was out Stone was down I was up I was stunned in fear He was bleeding out I tried to stop it But his pulse was gone, down came a signal tear War breaks out We scream and shout When that shot fired something was wrong And Stone was out

  19. About the Author Well I have a little piece of my self in each poem I feel like I'm winning a Grammy but anyway I the topic’s for every poem came from stuff I think about or I do in life and the Ballad is my favorite because I like the theme so much that I had to make it my best and that’s pretty much it.

My mother used to tell me get good games more presents.

  30. Jack Hartling’s Poetry book By Jack Hartling Spring 2012

  31. Dedication I Dedicate my poetry book to my father because he inspired me to be a crazy random person for no reason whatsoever at any given time. He is much of the reason I am the way I am today.

  32. Personal Poem By Jack Hartling I am Jack Hartling, people call me jack and I have no nickname My name is narwhal because I'm magical and people look at me like I have a horn on my head The animal inside me is a fly because I eat other peoples food and irritate people I don’t like A sound I love is a narwhal jumping out of the water, a sound I don’t like is a narwhal hitting the water My favorite time of the day is night so I am not around other people because I don’t like people If my hands could speak they would tell me to get up and do something and that they burn from the potato chips When I was 4 I remember making PB & J sandwiches with my dad and wearing an epic chef hat A wise saying my father had was he would walk up to people and repeatedly poke them in the head will saying “is this annoying you is this annoying you”

  33. Couplet By Jack Hartling The crisp colorful leave’s scraped down the road As I watched the neighbors carry there loads Children scurried like bugs , dressed as frightening witches and ghosts Everyone raises there half empty glasses to a Halloween toast The beautifulleaves have fallen, the trees are bare They sway in the distance standing out like men without hair

  34. Quatrain By Jack Hartling Huddled in a cornered my sore eyes tiredly I heard a stifled cry I rub my sore eyes tiredly As I gazed into the sky Lightning made the air crisp The storm thundered with rage I curled up tighter in my bed As our dog whined it its cage The smell of the salty ocean filled the air I slowly crept down the hall I told my mom of my fears She told me not to worry her voice full of care I trudged back to my bed The savage storm stole many lives that night I thought to myself At least it wasn’t me

  35. Haiku By Jack Hartling Neon green leaves appear A gentle stream will trickle Plants begin a new life

  36. Limerick By Jack Hartling There once was a narwhal named bob who really liked eating kabobs He had a ton of small lice Then he ate them like white rice Now he robs people In a mob

  37. Ballad By Davy Crocket and them boys from Texas Stirred up some trouble But little did they know Their fort would soon be rubble Santa Anna heard of their plan’s Though he’d finish what they’ve begun He charged his army into battle Slowly them Texan's plan’s were undone The army attacked old Alamo mission When the cannon’s begun to hammer The Texan’s realized one thing That none of them were going to the slammer Santa Anna heard of their plan’s Thought he’d finish what they’ve begun He charged his army into battle But slowly his plan’s were undone The Texan’s eye’s alight Charged him down like they were insane All will screaming of their plight They sent him back from where he’d came

  38. About the Author Mr. Hartling Currently takes residence in a suburban home located in Sterling VA. He is an accomplished poet {I think}. Many agree that Mr. Hartling belongs in a padded ward for the criminally insane but maybe two or three people think he’s some what normal. Mr. Hartling enjoys narwhals and spend his free time doing something completely wasteful and pointless. He has two brothers one who is 3 and the other is 9 {I think}.

  39. Anna’s poetry By Anna Henry Spring 2012

  40. Dedication I would like to dedicate this to my friends and family, who inspire me to be who I am.

  41. Personal Poem By Anna Henry I am Anna Henry, my family pronounces it Ana. I do not like it when other people call me that. My real name is tigger. It fits me well. I am always bouncing around and I'm not scared of what comes at me. The animal within me is a cow. My family says I have cow eyes. Cows are also very lazy, just like me. There is a star inside my heart. I try to shine bright when I need to. And I'm always shooting around when I'm outside. The word “brave” is on my forehead. I’m not afraid to take risks. I'm always standing up for what I believe in, aware of the consequences that will come after.

  42. I love the sound of my mothers soothing voice, the ice cream truck in the summer, and chirping birds in the spring. I hate the sound of my little brother and wind passing my ears while im on a bike. My favorite smell is warm baked pie right out of the oven. It makes the whole house smell like fresh baked bread. My favorite time of day is summer evening. If my hands could speak they would say “stop cracking me!” I crack my fingers a lot, and I know its not good for you. One of my favorite memories is going to a beach in Thailand. It was amazing! My mother often says “you’re my favorite!” this is because I’m her “mini me” and I get the best grades.

  43. Couplet By Anna Henry Lemonade stands all around In the sky there are no clouds Kids being a yap Stopping me from taking my nap Its time to go to bed Snuggle up with a pillow on my head

  44. Quatrain By Anna Henry Smooth on the outside Squishy on the inside The crescent shape fruit Dances on my tongue They bring joy to me But they’re not a bee I say yum when it comes Its green, no its yellow Then I say hello I would never let one spoil Or I would just boil I was one for Halloween And I will always be The number one fruit in America A banana

  45. Haiku By Anna Henry Flowers everywhere Warm relaxation of spring Refreshing colors

  46. Limerick By Anna Henry There was once a boy named jerry Who wanted to eat some cherries He sat back in a chair Then he saw a huge bear Now he's too scared to eat berries
