  2. Background • Author: Unknown • Date: AD 64-68 • Description of Recipient Community: Jewish Christians reverting back to Judaism

  3. Chapter 1 • God speaks through his Son Jesus Christ • Jesus is superior to prophets • Jesus created and is owner of the world • Continues to uphold the universe • Made purification for man's sins • Above angels who worship him • He is eternal

  4. Key Verse “Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name then they.” (Heb.1:4)

  5. Chapter 2 • God testified to salvation by signs • Angels not subjected to the world • Jesus made a little lower than angels • Jesus crowned with glory and honor • He suffered death by grace of god • Was tempted to help others that were tempted

  6. Key verse “Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.”(Heb. 2:9)

  7. Chapter 3 • Jesus was faithful like Moses • He is found with greater honor • Moses was faithful as a servant • Jesus was faithful as a son • Holy spirit says do not harden your heart

  8. Key Verse “For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses.” (Heb. 3:3)

  9. Chapter 4 • Christians urged to claim the OT promise of rest • Christ is the great High Priest • Mercy from the throne of grace • Word of God is living and active • People should hold firm to faith

  10. Key Verse “Seeing then that we have a High priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” (Heb 4:14)

  11. Chapter 5 • Jesus offered up prayers with loud cries • Learned obedience from suffering • Made source of eternal salvation • Designated by God to be High priest

  12. Key Verse “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all who obey him, called of God an High priest.” (Heb. 5:9)

  13. Chapter 6 • Enlightened have tasted of the heavenly gift • have been made partakers of holy spirit; • have tasted of the good word of The God • they can not renew repentance if they fall away • they will crucify for themselves the son and put him to open shame • Jesus is made high priest forever

  14. Key Verse “Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, is made High priest forever.” (Heb. 6:20)
