History of LSD • A chemist named Albert Hofmann was the first to synthesize LSD in Basel, Switzerland in 1938 • Five years later, Albert accidentally took LSD and found that even with 25 micrograms of the drug, one was able to experience hallucinations • Was used for experiments from 1940’s-1960’s because it was similar to a chemical that is found in the human brain • LSD was banned in the United States in 1967

  4. Effects of LSD • Dry mouth • Loss of Appetite • Sleeplessness • Sense of euphoria • Depression (low to severe, depending on dose)

  5. Deadly effects • Hallucinations – Blurred vision and the sighting of objects that are not there • Panic attacks – Some users have experienced “bad trips” suffer from anxiety and severe thoughts and feelings • Distortion of facts, which may include time of day, identity of a person, etc.

Prices can range from $2-5 • Lysergic acid, which is used to make LSD, derives from ergot, which is a fungus that grows on the rye
