  3. Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Suggestions • Practice mock orals with your peers. • Think about cases and dilemmas • you have encountered in practice. • Consider applying a framework to topics.

Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Re-read the exam handbook. • Familiarise yourself with exam regulations and procedures. • Calculate how much time is allocated per question. • Remember you are responsible for handing back your exam answer book. • Check the exam location and arrival time. • Check transport options and allow plenty of time. • You may not be admitted if you are late. • Bring blue/black pens. You will be provided with pencils and erasers.

  5. Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Do not need to bring paper with you. • Bring photographic evidence of identity, e.g. Driver’s licence/Passport. • Try to get a good night’s sleep. • The exam is based on the Core Curriculum and what you encounter in everyday general practice.

Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Attend exam centre at the arrival time indicated. • Sign attendance sheet as directed and show your Passport or Driver’s Licence. • Leave all bags, mobile phones, books and notes outside the exam room. • Sit in the allocated seat as indicated by your exam number.

Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Listen carefully to the Exam Invigilator and follow all instructions given. • Question papers are distributed and placed on desks facing downwards. • You must not commence reading the paper until instructed to do so. • Read all questions on the paper first before attempting to answer.

Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Before starting to write, calculate what time you will spend on each question. • When you have reached your self-allocated time, move on to the next question. • You must not communicate with other candidates during the exam. • Comply with all instructions given. • To leave the exam centre early you must seek permission. • You cannot leave the exam centre after 30 minutes to the end of the exam.

  9. Preparing for the MICGP Exam • Oral Examination • Consists of 2 oral exams, each 20 mins. • Two different examiner pairs in each oral. • Usually 5 questions per oral. • Each oral separated by about 5 mins. • The oral may be videotaped for examiner training and exam development.
