  1. FL NextGen Test Bed Overview Andras Kovacs

  2. Florida NextGen Test Bed Project Description • Purpose • Provide a platform for NextGen concepts and technologies to be demonstrated and evaluated • Provide capability for rapid integration of prototypes • Integrate technologies from flight domains to allow multi-domain and end-to-end demonstrations & evaluations • Foster innovation & industry partnerships and allow governed access for industry users, government, and academia • Methodology • Leverage on existing Florida Test Facility capabilities • Coordinate with other Test Bed sites and stakeholders for capability integration and information sharing • Expand Florida Test Bed in a phased approach

  3. Test Bed Project Description • Logically united, but physically distributed: • Atlantic City, NJ (Tech Center) • Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (NASA NTX) • Daytona Beach, FL • FL Test Bed FY10 Activities: • Initiate Florida planning and implementation activities • Coordinate with Tech Center • Coordinate with NASA • Initiate coordination with our Government / Industry partners • Support continual demonstrations • FL Test Bed FY11 Activities: • FL Test Bed Facility upgrades • FL Segment 1 Test Bed System implementation activities • FL Segment 2 and 3 planning activities • Support continual demonstrations

  4. FTB Facility FTB Entrance Area Aerial view of FTB Facility at DBIA • Daytona Beach Int’l Airport (DBIA) Facility: • Access to local aircraft fleet and medium size airport environment with large GA operations • Leverages ERAU Center of Excellence • Access to academic aviation researchers & ATC experts • Strong supportive relationship among FAA, ERAU, and airport community • Area and layout allows future NextGen Test Bed expansion Florida Test Bed Integration Area

  5. FTB Phased Deployment Approach • Segment 1 (Begin FY09/10): Rapid Integration environment for Prototypes • Initial Test Bed Capability with limited test bed infrastructure • Standalone initial demonstration capability using recorded data only • Segment 2 (Begin FY10/11): Add external & live data feeds • Basic agreements in place to receive initial external FAA data feeds • Test Bed infrastructure ready to receive and demonstrate with external data • Local support staff established for continual demonstration support • Segment 3 (Begin FY11): Integrated demo with other NextGen sites • Data integration capability with WJH Tech Center and NASA NTX • Integration capability with Industry Supporters and Stakeholders

  6. FTB Functional Components Diagram (notional)

  7. Test Bed Planned Capabilities • Microcosm of NAS with actual integrated systems (ATOP, ERAM, TRACON, TMA, Wx, AOC, SMS, etc.) • Systems integrated to support multiple flight domains & information sharing • Facility & System reconfigurability to support demos • System for configuration management of varying versions of systems to support respective demos • Recording & replay of demonstrations • Audio/Visual capability to support demonstrations • Dedicated area for conducting demonstrations • Mimics ATC environments • Area for observers to view demonstrations • Separate integration area for industry to test integration
