  1. Summary • This is just a brief glimpse of how I would try to set up my web page. It does not contain all the links I would include , but gives a good idea of where I would take my media web page if given the opportunity to design one for my current school.   3. Mission of the media center • o The mission of this Media Center is to serve as the heart of the school encouraging a love of reading for both pleasure and for educational purposes and effective users of information, technology, and other resources.

  4. Hours of Operation • Monday- Friday • 8:00 am-4:00pm • o Parents are always welcome to the Eagle's Nest. Come in and browse, check out materials or volunteer. We always need extra help, especially during our book fair! • o If you have any questions please call Miss Osorio at 929-7822.

  5. Media Specialist Bio: Hello, Parkwood Eagles Elementary School students and parents. My name is Marisol E. Osorio and I am so glad to be able to serve as your media specialist. I am a graduate of the Houston County School system. I graduated from Houston County High School and the continued my education at Macon State College, earning my B.S. in Early Childhood Education and Special Education and them my master’s degree in Media &Instructional Technology from Georgia College & State University in 2014. I taught students with special needs, ELL learners, and as a regular education teacher for six years before moving in to this current position. I really love being able to spend time working with our students and sharing a love of reading and technology with them.

  6. Media Center rules • Here at this elementary school it is important that you follow the rules below in order for use to have a safe and productive environment. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. • • Speak quietly so you don't disturb student who are reading or working in the media center. • • No food or drink in the media center. We would not want to accidently spill on the books. • • Use the shelf marker provided when searching for a book. • • Please come to the media center at designated times. • • Replace non-wanted books back on the shelf with spine facing out. • • Be respectful and considerate of everyone in the library. (Teachers, Staff and Students) • • Treat the books and other material with care. We would like them to last for everyone to enjoy them. • • Return books in a timely manner. • • Ask for help if you can't find what you want or use the computers to help you search. Remember use “Dewey Decimal Chart”, “I Pick”, and “5 Finger Rules” when choosing a book.

  7. Charts to finding the “just right” book • Use Chart “I Pick” • P- Purpose: Why do I want to read? • I- Interest: Does it interest me? • C- Comprehend: Do I understand it? • K- Know: Do I know most of the words?

Charts to finding the “just right” book • 5 Finger “Tips” of Choosing a Book to Read • Open your book to any page. • Read the words on that page. • Count the number of words you do not know on that page. • Now use the fingertips to help you decided if this is a good book for you to read by yourself. • Five words= Try a different book. • Four words= Tough to read. • Three words= You may need help reading this. • Two words= Still a good choice. • One Word= OK
