  2. The Dominican Republic is located on the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola The terrain is rugged highlands and mountains with fertile valleys throughout Climate is a tropical one with little seasonal temperature change Location

Punta Cana on the eastern tip Puerto Plata is located on the northern stretch Santo Domingo which is the Western Hemisphere’s oldest capital In Santo Domingo there is a 16th century Zono Colonial including the New World’s first university. The square contains museums and a theater with much shopping and nightlife. Major Cities and Landmarks

Transportation 34 airports 5 ports *Culture* Religion: Roman Catholic 95% Language: Spanish Ethnicity: white 16%, black 11%, mixed 73% Entertainment- nightlife is similar to Las Vegas consisting of discos and casinos. Popular dances are the merengue, played loudly almost everywhere Wind surfing, kitesurfing, horseback riding Transportation, Entertainment and Culture

  5. FOOD • Breakfast always includes mangu, a savory puree made with mashed plantains • Papayas are very popular • Dominican food has similarities to neighboring islands of Puerto Rico and Cuba
