  2. 19N 70W It is located in north America It is in the north west hemisphere The Caribbean sea surrounds the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is bordered by Puerto Rico on the east and on the west there is Cuba and Jamaica. Location

  3. The Duarte peak is the highest mountain that is in the Dominican republic. Most crops are grown in the Cibao valley because of its fertile land. The los tres ojos is the largest open air cave in the Dominican republic. Place

  4. Climate • The Dominican Republic is very tropical the temp is always around 77 degrees. • The rainy season is May through November those are the months when most hurricanes happen.

  5. Crops • The main crops are sugar cane, cacao, tobacco, coffee plants, rice and coco beans. • The reason those crops grow the best is because of the climate and the land.

  6. Plants • The Dominican republic has wet and dry areas the dry parts have small trees and little shrubs. The wet areas have thick rain forest. • A common tree is the royal palm • The coastal areas are line with mangrove swamps

  7. Wild Life • There is 290 different kinds of birds and 20 different mammals. • There is only 2 mammals and the rest where brought by other people. The two animals are solenodons witch are like shrews and hutia witch are small rodents like mice.

  8. Population and language • The population of the Dominican Republic is 10,090,151. • The language the people speak is Spanish but there is English spoken too.

  9. Major cities and attractions • The capitol and largest city is Santo Domingo. • Santiago is the 2nd largest city. • Playa del macao, lago enriquillo, and the eastern national park are the top 3 mmust see attractions in the Dominican Republic.

  10. Natural recourses • Gold, silver, iron ore, nickel, and aluminum ore are mined in the Dominican republic. • There are also large sugar cane plantations.

  11. Agriculture/Industries • The Dominican Republic is the 2nd largest producer of sugar can in the world. • Farming is one of the leading producers in the Dominican Republic.

  12. Jobs and affects from the climate • Two of the biggest jobs are mining gold, silver, and nickel another is harvesting sugarcane. • The reason that the jobs are so big is because so many people have one of those two jobs. • The big affect on the Dominican Republic from the climate is all of the big floods and the hurricanes.

  13. Important people • Juan Pablo Duarte, he was a famous liberal leader • Rafael Trujillo, he lead the Dominican republic for 10 years he was military dictator. • Santiago Rodriguez, one of the richest Dominican drug kings. He was also the first person to sell crack and cocaine.

  14. immigration • An estimated 10% of the Dominicans legally immigrate and 5% of that 10% live in New York city. • About 4,984 Dominicans are caught by the U.S. coast guard.
