  3. BLUES • All about Feelings! • Need to feel unique • Must be true to themselves • Drawn to nurturing careers, to help people • Value close relationships • Need to feel appreciated • Share emotions • People matter the most • Love working in groups with other people

  4. GREENS • Need to be competent • Independent learners • Seek to understand • Innovative and logical • Curious • Question authority • Push themselves to improve • Focus on the future • Work is play • Slow to make decisions • Intellectually isolated, prefers data to people • Detached and not sensitive to other’s feelings • Drawn to technical occupations

GOLDS • Value structure, organization, rules • Need to be useful • Want to be self-sufficient • Punctual (on time!) • Schedule & plan their lives • Responsible • Want appreciation for work • Drawn to respected occupations • Work comes before play • Very goal-oriented • Want dependable relationships

ORANGES • Free, spontaneous, impulsive, optimistic • Resist commitment • Like to be the center of attention • Competitive, dynamic, animated • Need variety and excitement • Want appreciation for their performance • Drawn to action jobs • Honest, direct, generous • Interesting and very energetic

  12. Sheldon’s Personality Types (1950’s)Based on the shape of your body 1. fat, soft & round= sociable, enjoy the easy life 2. muscular=assertive, bold, energetic 3. skinny/bony=self-conscious, shy, sensitive, nervous Most people are a combination of the three!

  13. Kagan’s Research (1969) Newborn babies separated into three major categories: 1. “Easy” children- relaxed/agreeable 2. “Difficult” children-moody/intense 3. “Slow to warm-up”-shy/restrained

  14. Birth Order Effects on Personality • First born- more responsible, disciplined, hard-working • Middle born- needy of attention, disruptive/unruly- or shy and restrained • Last born- affectionate, friendly, creative, at ease with others

  15. Are you an introvert or extrovert??? • DVD segment • Watch the scientific study that was conducted on introverts and extroverts. • What does this tell us???

  16. Array model (Knaupp 1995) • Complete the Hundred Acre Wood Personality Array Inventory by rank ordering your responses in rows on a scale from 1-4 ,with 4 being the greatest like you. • Total each column. • Examine the four personality types

  17. Animal Personality Survey • Circle the word or phrase under each animal that describes a consistent trait of yours, then total the number and insert then on the designated lines.

  22. BEAVERS • Do things right and “by the book” • Accurate, detail-oriented, orderly • Provide rules & consistency • Have very high standards • Easily frustrated with others who do not share same characteristics • Hard for them to express warmth in relationships
