  3. Constructive Forces The process of weathering and erosion that can be helpful

  4. Hurricane a very large and violent tropical storm that start as small thunderstorms over warm water

  5. Tornado a dark funnel of strong winds that spiral upward

  6. Tsunami A large wave produced by an earthquake, volcano, or landslide

  8. Non-renewable Fossil fuels: coal, natural gas, and oil Minerals

  9. Inexhaustible Resource Sun, wind, and ocean tides

  10. Carbon Cycle The movement of carbon dioxide and oxygen between organisms in the air

  11. Fossil Fuels A fuel that formed from the decayed remains of ancient plants and animals oil, natural gas, & coal

  12. Greenhouse Effect The process of Earth’s atmosphere trapping heat near Earth’s surface

  13. Photosynthesis The process of using the energy in sunlight to make food from water and carbon dioxide

  14. Respiration The process of breathing in air to get oxygen and breathing out waste gases

  15. Producer An organism that makes its own food

  16. Consumer An organism that gets energy by eating other organisms

  17. Decomposer An organism that gets energy by feeding on the remains or wastes of other organisms

  18. Conservation The wise use and protection of our natural resources. REUSE, REDUCE, & RECYCLE

  19. Earthquake The shaking of Earth’s crust caused by rock slabs moving against each other.

  20. Glacier A large body of moving ice that stays frozen all year.

  21. Renewable Resource

  22. Non-renewable Nonrenewable resources are resources that nature cannot replace in our lifetime.

  23. Volcano A mountain built up from hardened lava, rocks and ash.

  24. Rocks that are formed when sediments were pressed together.

  25. Metaphoric Rocks Marble Rocks that are formed when another kind of rock was squeezed and heated deep inside Earth’s crust.

  26. Igneous Rocks Rocks that are formed from cooled magma or lava.

  27. Inexhaustible Resource

  28. Orbit The path an object takes as it moves around another object in space.

  29. Path The line along which something moves.

  30. Revolve Travel in a path – large circle

  31. Rotate Spin – The Earth rotates on its axis.

  32. Solar System The sun and the objects that orbit around it.

  33. Erosion The process of moving sediment from one place to another.

  34. Natural Resource Materials in the environment that are useful to people.

  35. Water Cycle The change of water from one state to another as it moves between Earth’s surface and the atmosphere.

  36. Weathering The process by which rock is worn down and broken apart.

  37. Evaporation evaporation The process of changing from a liquid to a gas.

  38. Precipitation precipitation Water that falls to the Earth’s surface as rain, snow, sleet or hail.

  39. Accumulation accumulation The collection of water, such as a stream, puddle or lake.

  40. Condensation To change from a gas to a liquid as the temperature decreases.
