Female Condom Advocacy • Female Condom Advocacy project (FCAP) supported by UAFC joint program and implemented by ARFH and EVA and other UAFC partners commenced in 2013. • FC is one of the identified 13 commodities prioritized by Nigeria and the UN Commission on Life saving Commodities • September 16, 2013 marked the second annual Global Female Condom Day – a day of education and advocacy to increase awareness, access, and use of female condoms. • It was celebrated in Nigeria on 10th October with support from UNFPA

  4. Collaboration with Partners in planning GFCD 2013 • UAFC Nigeria partners: SFH, Oxfam, ARFH and EVA in collaboration with UNFPA and the FMOH held meetings to discuss and plan events to commemorate GFCD 2013 Planning for GFCD Enhanced collaboration with UNFPA, Nigeria

Achievements and Lessons Achievements Lessons The need to plan several months ahead in order to ensure involvement of all partners Strong grassroots community mobilization with effective communication are key to promoting use of female condoms in Nigeria. Male involvement is crucial to FC acceptance and use • Increased awareness and focus on female condom (FC) among the general public and policymakers • Skills built on FC insertion • Over 3,000 pieces of FC distributed • Strengthened collaboration for advocacy and policy support for female condom among partners
