  3. Aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita public safety communications centers faced many challenges Greatest challenge was maintaining adequate staffing Several initiatives APCO and NENA joined to develop TERT (Telecommunicator Emergency Response Taskforce) TERT

  4. TERT Agencies should: • Be prepared for: • Loss of power • Loss of security • Loss of personnel • Focus on: • Training • Planning for system restoration • Multi-agency response • Evacuation

  5. To provide and maintain a resource network of qualified Telecommunicators whom are available for rapid deployment to assist public safety communication centers in times of manmade or natural disasters. AZ-TERT Mission Statement

  7. Educate PSAP’s around state about the taskforce and its benefits to the PSAP Database creation and process for maintenance Member and Team Leader Training Website creation and maintenance Financial Assistance Develop a MOU Develop a State Taskforce

  8. Bottom Line • Voluntary Involvement • Agency • Member • Agency Survey • Membership Application • Provides overall understanding • Requires three signatures • AZ-TERT is there to help - NOT TO TAKE-OVER • How prepared is your agency?

Pass a criminal background check Meet required vaccination requirements Have a signed letter from agency director Completion of NJTI Deployment Awareness Training Course Completion of ICS 100 and 700 Possess positive interpersonal communication and leadership skills Be flexible and energetic Criteria for TERT Members

Be an excellent multi-tasker and problem solver Be assertive in a positive manner Be an outstanding team player Maintain above average annual performance reviews with no chronic work problems Possesses an excellent working knowledge of the appropriate public safety emergency response operation and equipment as it relates to the member’s role Criteria for TERT Members
