Security Update • Keep on using the products • AntiVirus ( AVG 7.5) • AntiSpyware (Windows Defender) • Firewall (With a router: WindowsOtherwise: ZoneAlarm) • Keep doing backups • USB memory devices are even cheaper now and easy for ad-hoc backups • USB External hard Drives are also very cheap and come complete with backup software • Secure your Wireless Network

  4. Google • Google maps seems to be using the same databases of images as Google Earth. • The latest release of Google Earth also has a “sky” button. Confusing at first, perseverance is required.

  5. Broadband • A free “Guide To Broadband” from Which?Phone 0800 389 6524 and quote BROAD257 (from RYA Magazine) • For the technically minded, 2 good websiteswww.samknows.com/broadband/ lets you dig into the BT databases and find out, e.g. which LLUs are unbundled at your exchange, how far you are from the exchange etc.www.thinkbroadband.com all information about every supplier in the UK plus speedtests

  6. Document Enhancement • Microsoft Word. • In most (all?) Microsoft applications you insert pictures in the same way. If you can do it in one application you can do it in all of them. • Using the menu system:

  7. eMail Enhancement • There are several options – although Microsoft Outlook Express is not the easiest or best product. • First, you must be using “Rich Text Format (HTML)”, not “Plain Text”

  8. eMail Enhancement • 3 options are available from Format | Background • Picture - this lets you insert a picture as background to the whole email page – sizing this correctly is difficult • Color – choose the colour for the background from the 16 colour palette • Sound – browse to a sound to play • These really are not very good

  9. eMail Enhancement • StationeryFormat | Apply Stationery • Simply apply any of the 6 “themes”, or • Using the “more stationery” button you can create new stationery either by modifying existing, or by creating from scratch. • The “Create new…” button starts the Stationery Wizard.

  10. Sending Photos by email • Sending photos which have come directly from a digital camera via email. Each picture can be several megabytes. If the recipient is not on a broadband service their email system will grind to a halt. What is the answer??? • Picasa from Google
