Maryland • Maryland was founded in 1632 • The founder of it is Lord Baltimore • They discovered Maryland so they could be free • Lord Baltimore is from England • The major cities are Baltimore and Annapolis • They went there for the Manufacturing (shipbuilding, iron works), Agriculture (corn, wheat, rice, indigo)

  4. Virginia • Virginia was founded by Captain John Smith • Virginia was founded in 1607 • They went there for a new route to Asia and to get gold • Thecolonists were from London • The major cities are Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Richmond

  5. South Carolina • South Carolina was founded in 1663 • It was founded by eight nobles with a Royal Charter • They came here for Plantation agriculture (indigo, rice, tobacco, cotton, cattle) • The major city is Charleston • South Carolina became a state on May 23, 1788

  6. North Carolina • It was founded in 1653 ten years before South Carolina was founded • North Carolina was founded by people from Virginia • It was founded by King Charles the second

  7. Georgia • Georgia was founded by King George the second • It was founded in 1732 • The explorers were from Greece and Germany • They went to Georgia for the rice

  9. New York • New York was founded by Peter Minuit and many others • He founded it in 1626 • Peter and other colonists founded it for the animal skins and the crops they could use • The major city in New York is New York City • It became a state on July 26, 1788

Pennsylvania • Pennsylvania was founded in 1681 • It was named by William Penn • He came to Pennsylvania for Agriculture and manufacturing • They named it Pennsylvania because his last name is Penn • The major cities are Philadelphia, Lancaster, York • Pennsylvania became a state on December 12, 1787

  11. Delaware • It was founded in1638 • They named it after BaronDe La Warr • Henry Hudson discovered Delaware • He came from Holland • The major city is Wilmington • The wanted Agriculture (fishing), Manufacturing (lumbering)

  12. New Jersey • It was founded in 1664 • New Jersey was founded by George Carteret • It was founded by English colonists • It was founded for the manufacturing • New Jersey’s major city is Trenton

  14. New Hampshire • New Hampshire was founded by John Wheelwright and others • It was founded in 1638 • They went there for the Agriculture (potatoes, fishing), Manufacturing (textiles, shipbuilding) • New Hampshire’s major city is Concord • New Hampshire became a state June 21, 1788

Massachusetts • It was founded in 1630 by John Winthrop and others • They went there for the Agriculture (fishing, corn, livestock), Manufacturing (lumbering, shipbuilding) • They major cities are Boston, Quincy, Plymouth, Salem, Lexington, and Concord • Massachusetts became a state on February 6, 1788

  16. Connecticut • It was founded in1636 by Thomas Hooker and others, at Hartford • They went there for Agriculture (wheat, corn, fishing) • It became a state on February 6, 1788 • The major cities are Hartford, New Haven

  17. Rhode Island • Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams and others • They went there for Agriculture (livestock, dairy, fishing), Manufacturing (lumbering) • The major city is Providence • It became a state on May 29, 1790
